    Fuel Pump Or Something Else??

So this all started about 2 or 3 months ago. Every once and awhile I would get in my 2001 Chevy 2500HD turn the key and EVERYTHING would die, no power anywhere. I would have to get out, pop the hood and start jiggling the battery and battery connections then the engine compartment light would come on. Sometimes I would have to do the same scenario 3,4, or 5 times then the truck would start, and then if you didn't keep on the gas the truck would stall out.

Well i bought a new battery and connections and a new fuel filter and the truck has been fine. Well tonight as i was pulling into work the truck stalled out. I still had electrical power but the engine wasn't running. I stopped the truck and tried to start it again and I got it running for about 20secs before it stalled out again. I would turn the key and it would just crank and crank, it wouldn't turn over. I parked it and called my buddy that has a tow truck. He got it all hooked up and tried to start it and it started up. Of course it isn't going to start right up when he drove out to get it. I told him just to tow it to my house and I will work on it tomorrow.

Now im thinking the fuel pump is getting warm/hot and shutting its self off then cooling down and resetting its self. My buddy checked the fuel pressure when all this was going on and all he told me was "its fine". I Haven't had a chance to do it yet.

Anyone with some help or ideas would be great!!!! Thanks

Saw something similar on the Silverado forums. Sounds similar, might want to look into it some more before trying it.

"I have a 2003 Silverado Extended Cab LS, 4.8, auto, with 97,600 miles. All the miles are mine, highway, and truck has been very well taken care of. I decided to go buy a new battery. So I brought the new battery home, installed it, cranked up the truck to test it out, and everything is good....I thought. Later that day I take the truck out, and it starts stalling, and even died a couple of times. This had never happened before. I remembered hearing something about the computer being reset. Can anybody help me with this? The only changes in the trucks configuration was the battery change."

The guy replied to his own thread.

"Ok, found the answer. Changing the battery resests the computer. To restart it you have to touch the 2 cables together, hook them up to the battery. Then put in your key, turn to the start position, but don't start the truck! Let it go through all the lights blinking and all that crap. after it checks everything out, then crank the truck and let it idle for 5 minutes. It will really act weird for a few minutes, then it will smooth right out. Was told about this by a GM Tech, and it worked 1st time."

Like I said above maybe look into a bit more, wouldn't want you to jack anything up.
