New best for my 9:1 compression NA 331...

I've been chasing the 11's for a long time and today was my day!

My new combo is a 9:1 compression dart block 331 with AFR 185 comp heads, my old custom cam that was designed for my stock shortblock combo, a TMOSS ported Holley systemax intake, and all of the normal bolt-ons. Race weight checked in at ~3430lbs with me. Here's how my day went:

1st pass: 11.709 at 119.35 with a 1.668 60' (I came with a goal of 11.8 at 118, so I was excited when I blew it away on my first pass)
    2nd pass: 11.714 at 121mph with a 1.82 60'
    3rd pass: 11.53 at 120.33mph with a 1.64 60'
4th pass: 12.304 at 117.31 with a 1.804 60' (the clutch slipped on the launch)
    5th pass: 11.505 at 120.96 with a 1.620 60'
    6th pass: 11.60 at 120.62 with a 1.702 60' (hot lap)
    7th pass: 11.760 at 119.08 with a 1.754 60' (clutch was letting go again)

To say I'm happy is an understatement. I never thought this NA low compression 331 would be capable of these times at my weight. I now have to decide if I'm going to put my T76 turbo on or sell it and go all out NA. Time will tell...

Thanks again to Chris and Troy for taking the videos and pictures of my car today, i really appreciate it guys! Also, thanks to my buddy Mike for loaning me his centerline wheels and ET streets!

Congrats again to Joe too (Purestock) on your new best.

    COngrats!!!
Imagine what this thing would do with the right cam in there!
What were you shifting the car at?
Did you get your a/f ratio worked out?

I made all shifts by the seat of my pants as I can not see above 6000rpms on my stock tach as the wideband gauge is in front of it. On my datalogs it appeared as though the shifts were occuring at 6500 and I crossed at about that RPM too. Not bad for a cam that was supposed to have a usable range of 2800-5800 on a 302-317ci engine huh? LOL!

I'll have a video up tomorrow. Its uploading now and I'm too tired to wait for it to finish.

That is impressive out of a 331 and a heavy vert! Congrats, there are a few simple but damn quick cars on the site. I think it's neat.

LOL! If the clutch would have held it may have pulled the wheels but alas, it wasn't to be.

Congrats Paul, nice to see the 331 holding up great. Not bad for a boosted spec'd combo.....

Thanks for the updates through out the day, wish I could have been there.

Thanks Rick! I couldn't sleep last night wondering what a cam spec'd for this combo, more compression, and possibly punching it out to a 363ci would do... My goal has been all along to go 130mph, maybe I need to sell the turbo and try and do it NA.

Paul - very sweet times for how that is put together (running NA with turbo combo).

You should get a shift light in that thing too. I never look at the tach ever, just wait for the light and pull the stick ;)

B.P's 345ci goes 9.3's @ 145+ all motor, but it has some nice porting, soild roller and carb

A Stage 2+ or Stage 3 SPEC will take care of that clutch issue...lol
