I think my street car is a little slow at 9.70s on 93 octane, i want to see high 8s on pump gas, then i might be a little pleased with this car for once... And the 557 should do the trick..

Epic fail on the first attempt to build the 455 for my Cutlass this spring.
Hung all 8 exhaust valves open and pinged them. You can see the nick at about 10 o'clock, and it was on every piston. Everything is cleaned up now, time to assemble it, get it in, and get rolling well before the '09 season starts.

I bought the engine complete, as I know its history. I took it apart to make everything fresh. I didn't degree the cam before taking it out, so I don't know how it was installed. Mistake 1. I put the cam back in, new timng chain, installed straight up, or so I thought. Not degreeing the cam on the reinstall was the epic fail. I apparently did not line the correct marks up on the gears, though I was sure I went dot to dot for straight up. Timing was retarded just enough to leave the exhaust valves open enough for the pistons to hit. Had I degreed the cam in, I would have found the problem right away.
Moral of the story: ALWAYS degree in your cam.
Bob, Russ went 11.60s-80s with it, but I'll be about 2-3 hundred pounds heavier, with just a little more gear, 3.90 to his 3.70, same size tire. So we'll see. If it's in the 11s right off the bat, I'll have to make a decision. I'll be in Mod someday, I just want to win a Street title before I move up. Besides, I have to push Balaska's car in Mod. :D
