If we're not allowed to profile people of certain races/genders/religion, I'm not sure why they're allowed to profile a car to having its front windows tinted... even if they're down.
Just for arguments sake.. The same as a person who looks like a muslim extremist will be upset if he is 'randomly' chosen for a security search at the airport, and we have to respect that - I believe that it is fair to extend that same type of courtesy to a car with window tint. If the front windows are down while the car in question is to be pulled over, I see absolutely no reason for the violation. The window tint is only applicable when the windows are up/closed.
unfortunately.... it seems like more of a revenue citation than anything. I understand that dark windows can put the officer's life at risk, however I can take a can of paint to all of my other windows and that would be much more dangerous, as they wouldn't be able to see what was going on inside the car until they were right on top of the window (and by then it might be too late).
An interesting idea that would allow window tint would be licensed and legalized tinting registration through the police department. We have all kinds of technologies that can detect anything used in an explosive, and surely if there were any drug use in the car, a dog could sniff it out or something. Say $15 a year per vehicle to search & certify the car isn't being used for narcotics or any other controlled substances & you can have tint. The state would make wayyyy more money & people would be happier as well (at least I would be! $15 for piece of mind?!?! hell yeah).
You'd think that with all of the retarded taxes that they're implementing, someone would have thought of that (or something similar). Unfortunately politicians seem to be experts on absolutely nothing other than public speaking.
my thoughts exactly.
I personally think they should allow darker tint (i think the law is 70%?) i have 22% and i have no problems with vision at night or dusk at all, but i do get A LOT of looks from the boys in blue. I don't think mine is too dark, my brother has 5% and thats WAY too dark, although it looks sick as H3LL. i think 22% should be allowed.
