    Audio Help

Well ive been thinking lately of putting the subs i have into my explorer (97 explorer sport, 2dr, 4.0) but i dont want to go buy a shitty looking head unit to do it, i think the stocker looks pretty damn good imo, so what i was wondering was.. how can i hook these subs up to a stock head unit..

anyway to hook my amp for my subs up to the stock head unit, and then run my subs like normally?

Any help would be appreciated!! Thanks guys!

Yes there is a way to do it. Go to your local audio store or even Circuit City or Best Buy and get an line to audio converter. It wires into the factory harness and will let you hook up an amp to power your subs.

if you dont do whats listed above^^^

see if you have rca hookups behind your factory radio. if you do then you can.

    power to 12v
    ground to body
blue wire for remote to amp
    rca's from radio to amp
    subs to amp.

well i cant find out if the amp has speaker level inputs because the amp is supposedly behind the right rear luggage compartment, and to get to it, you need to take the WHOLE right side panel in the rear off, and in my sport its all one piece and would be an absolute bitch to take out or put back in... so thats definetly out.

And as far as it having rca im not sure, i havent looked yet, but from what i see on the internet it doesnt..

    can anybody confirm this?

the 600w amp would be the one youd need to look at for the high level inputs.

But as stated earlier, a Low Level converter Is perfect for the job, also known as a "Step Down"

PAC sells one part # Sni-35, the module connects directly to your speaker wires either behind the headunit, or at a speaker location, the module has 2 rca outputs, and an adjuster to help you fine tune the audio level prior to the amp.

I sell those here for 19.99 so im sure thats the same most anywhere you go. There are literally hundreds of the "LOC" or Low Output Converters out there.
Good luck in you quest, if you fail to locate the parts you are looking for please use the contact info below

sounds pretty straight forward.. by doing this, do i lose any of my speakers? or will they all still function properly?

All of your speakers will function properly. You are just using a signal to power the converter which changes your signal to RCA. One thing to keep in mind with doing this is whichever speakers you have it hooked up to will also work with your stock fader and balance. If you keep those at 0 you will be fine and it will not affect your bump at all. It's pretty easy to do.

I dont want to sound like an @$$ but you will be happier if you do it right the first time and just buy a good head unit. It will have a cleaner sub out signal and make your amp and subs much happier.

well its not that i dont want a head unit, its just i really like the stocker, and i hate the black backing plate needed with a head unit to make it look right, i still think it looks like garbage because of that..

but im thinking i might as well just get a head unit and be done with it...

I know what you mean. Some of those mounting kits look like hell but you can allways try to cut your own out of something and flush mount it.

    Thumbs up

go to a car audio place and see if they still make radios to fit in the stock openings. pioneer used to make them. that way you have youre rca and remote power wire for your amp and you still have a clean factory look.
