Changing the name of the site?

With all the heat from Ford and the wide variety of different vehicles we have on this board, im thinking of changing the name to steelcitymusclecars. I bought the name a few years ago but never did anything with it. What does everyone think?

Like i said in the other thread, If it keeps you out of trouble, Lou, then I have no problem with it, however, I voted no because I believe we should fight for it, and I like the name and what it stands for.

x2... we shouldn't let ford do this out of nowhere, you have been using this name for years with no problems (at least none that im aware of). We are not hurting ford in any way and we arent making money off of using their name. Also, we arent even using Mustang...just stang...

One more thing: i thought it was a good idea as mentioned in the other thread that maybe you could just put a disclaimer on the site that says we are in no way affiliated with Ford motor company

    awww... is someone butthurt?

I think you should do what's best for you as the site owner. I think keeping it a small community is great - i havent' read thru ALL of the posts, but I'm sure that there is some way to keep the site a primarily Mustang community while taking off anything that Ford would get a stick up their ass about...

I don't think that this place would fill up with an enormous amount of stupid people if you opened it up to SteelCity Muscle Cars, but there might be a few more - too bad you can't be selective about who you let in and who you don't.... do your own style of Underwriting.

Eh, overall, i might be in a minority not being a Mustang owner, but i still think it should stay SteelCityStangs

    Still thinking before I vote..

if it would avoid the legal trouble, then yes I'd change the name. It will also give the site more room to grow by welcoming other make/model enthusiasts, which should be a good thing.

Steel City Muscle is better than anything I can think of right now. The name steel city stangs is pretty damn good IMO. Only other thoughts I've had as far as a new name is Steel City Horsepower. I dunno, I just hope for something that emphasizes a lack of import posters lol

I remember like a year or two, Ford sued the Black Mustang Club (a site for just mustangs with black paint) over their annual BMC calendar. I forget what happened, but I think it would be a good idea to look into it (I'm feeling lazy right now)

    I voted NO.

I like Steel City Stangs. Ford is just trying to flex its muscle because all of the big 3 are in financial hardship right now. Personally I don't care if they get bailed out or not. If they get a free ride whats gonna make them change anything to keep it from happening again? I mean Ford announced the closing of the F150 plant down here in Norfolk around the time that the whole ordeal with BMC came around, Coincidence, I don't know but it seem like they only care about people using the names of their vehicles when they are worried about their profit margin.

I say Steel City Stangs rocks as it is but Lou you have to do what will be asier on you.

I do like the sound of Steel City Muscle though as MBH stated or

I voted no because I like the idea of it being dedicated to Mustangs ....However It will grow if it includes the other Muscle Cars out there..... Also I dont think Lou should have to go thru any court Sh-- If it comes to that, then change the name and keep the site going .... Maybe in the long run it would benefit the site to include other makes and models

x2s... More people, more info, more products, more site sponsors.. As long as the rules keep being inforced then it would not get out of hand.. It benefits alot more than people think to having a larger crowd..

I agree the more the better, but whats the point of it being called scs and dedicated to mustangs...Then changing it to all muscle cars..IT takes away from what it is now and what its always been..

i agree again... lots of people does have its benefits, BUT if i want that i can always go to pitt speed or the corral. i like being able to come here and just be all about mustangs and recognize almost everyone that posts on the site.

i also like being able to come here and go to the classifieds and see 99% of the car classifieds are just mustang parts.... i hate going on pittspeed and having to go through 10 pages of "WTB B-series pistons" "Looking for clean civic shell" "For sale: type R tranny" "WTT: H22 out of my prelude si" etc etc etc. before i see a single mustang part.

I don't necessarily agree that "more is better" in this case... as I think one of the "more"s that is overlooked is "more problems"

I'm open to the idea of bringing in more people that will get along well and add to our online "community" here, however I believe that one of the reasons why this site has succeeded is because it is a niche site for a specific model car (which fosters the development of a comradery amongst the members, as they all have a commonality amongst them). There are many people that would fit in well here, regardless of the type of car they drive or what kind of cars they like, however it opens a door that need not be opened. I haven't been here very long, however I have known about the site. I never joined because I didn't have a mustang, so it was rather pointless IMO.

IDK, overall it's Lou's call on what direction he wants the site to go in, and I support him with whatever that direction may be - however I would talk it over with the moderators and the site sponsors to see what is in their best interests (if you havn't already, I'm sure its been brought up on a moderator only subforum or something).

meh, i'm reading wayyyyyyyy to far into this. A name change will probably not alter the earth's rotation or anything, but it could promote a change in demographics and a change in mindset. For better/worse? who knows!
