Schizoid thought of the day: Anybody every own a Porsche?

Crivelli's in Mt. Pleasant has a used one for sale. 2006 boxster (regular, not S-model), 5-speed manual. White with tan int. I don't know what the asking price is.

Anyway, I always hear horror stories about the Porsches maintenance costs and parts. Is it just because middle-aged dinks (double income no kids), with a cushy office job (read: not gearheads) buy them and get screwed by the dealers because they're stupid about cars.

OR, is there really some kind of magical Porsche parts and oil and brakes that will bankrupt the common man?

Money MIGHT be an issue Clarkie. The regular Boxster is the one all the cool people look at and say, "Well, that's the cheap one."

Check around for regular cayenne's. I think they came out around 04 or 05, they arent too bad. Boxster's are cool too though...i'd rock it.

Porsche. There is no substitute!

Adam, I'm not sure if the boxster is the same way as the air cooled 911s were, but my dad's 911 took 11 quarts of oil.

Also, if you take your car to the dealership - you're gonna get screwed price wise. A good porsche mechanic will know his worth and charge similar rates as the dealership.

My dad's never needed anything other than brakes, tires & oil changes - but that was an air cooled & I'm not sure if the new porsches do anything differently, but they're extremely reliable from his experiences (had 3 or 4 of them?). If something does go wrong, its very easy to get tangled up into a huge repair bill (even if its just parts). Its mid-engined too, so access isn't going to be very easy unless you own a lift is what I heard when the boxster first came out (may have changed since then).

Personally, I think that car is gorgeous & that is a beautiful color combo. I love the sahara(?) interior porsche does

i know a guy in mn, that has a gt2.. supposedly 1 of 3 in the state..

Drive the Boxster before you knock it...it's a great driving experience. Super tight handling, steering response, braking, ect. Those cars used have become a great value for someone looking for a real sports car.

the boxster sucks. i worked on one a few months ago. was dissappointed how it drove and handled. nothing to write home about. if going porsche get a real one at least.

If you try to drive it like a muscle car then yes it will. Also, I'm not sure the customer would appreciate you flogging their baby nor can I imagine that you drove it enough to really get to know it or enjoy it. At least you had experience with it though

Adam, try looking into the bmw m roadster if you want a convertible with a little more of a wild side. There are a lot of fun and practical options in that price range :)

I'm not ACTIVELY looking for anything. I just happen to know somebody at that dealership. Porsche in Mt. Pleasant in the dead of winter gets brought to my attention.

I'd buy the "poor man's" Porsche if I was interested in a roadster:

I would have to agree. With the boxter, you are buying the Porsche name. I have also worke of one, and I was not impressed, the handling was not that great, it rode stiff and was expensive to get parts for. If you really want a Porsche, I'd look into a 911 derivative, as the one I work on rides very nice and is lightyears ahead of the boxter. I would seriously look into a Miata before a boxter.
