It was a '68 Cutlass S, the base model, but the body was perfect. My buddy and I were newbies to wrenching at the time, and that very night had changed the points and reset the dwell (kids, ask your dads what points are). The car was running better than it ever did. I was going home, crossing over the Highland Park Bridge to Allegheny River Blvd. There was a Buick Somerset in front of me, weaving from lane to lane. He almost hit the jersey barriers going around the curve to ARB, then almost hit the curb. He was only going about 15mph, so when it turned into 2 lanes, I went to pass him. That's another lesson... let the drunks or bad drivers be in front of you. I wasn't hammer down or anything, just passing around 30-35mph. He started to move left, into my lane. I moved left, straddling the center line. Triaxle was coming up the hill, 4 wheel drums suck in a panic stop. The car slid, front passenger corner leading the way into the side of the truck. Had I not had my belts on, I would have been an ugly smear across the steering wheel, dash, and windshield. As the car settled after impact, the last I saw was the Buick driving away, still weaving.
That sucks^
