    Clutch Issues

Hello everyone, I've been having trouble with my clutch cable snapping from time to time. I'm now in my Th cable and getting very fed up. I have a Tremec T5 with Lakewood blow proof bell housing, Lakewood clutch fork and pivot ball a ford racing fly wheel a king cobra clutch. I'm using a Jegs 3 peace set cable, quadrant and firewall adjuster. Any ideas why this might keep happening? before the cable breaks and leaves me stranded it always gets hard to push the pedal and its all down hill from there.

What are some of you guys running with the Lakewood set up or what should I be using different?

    Thank you, Chris

i heard factory ford cables are the best too run. try finding a factory 03-04 cobra cable. thats gonna be your best bet. if that brakes you have a serious issue

X2... factory Ford cables seem to be the strongest.

Pretty sure there is nothing special about the '03/'04 cobra cables. They are all the same on the Sn-95 and New Edge chassis'. I personally am using the stock cable with a steeda quadrant and UPR Microclick firewall adjuster. Also have a pedal height adjuster underdash. NO PROBLEMS at all.

I have a UPR double-lock firewall adjuster here if you want it Just shoot me a PM.

I use a steeda firewall adjuster and quadrant. Both are nice pieces. I'd recommend steeda.

is the clutch fork longer than stock? ive had the same cable on my car for 5-6 years with 4-5 clutches and havent broken one yet. i have a lakewood scatter shield but i lengthened my clutch fork about an inch to keep the cable parallel with the bellhousing does yours run at an angle? mine is straight with the longer fork. how is your front bearing retainer? if its all scored up that will make the pedal real hard to push. there is something wrong if your chewing up cables

Wrap the cable with header wrap. Its probably getting hot and melting the inner liner. Thats what happened to mine 4 times. Header wrap on the cable and on the long tubes and problem solved.

My dad has a steeda firewall adjuster and quadrant and for about 2 years it was GREAT! then when the cable wore out a guy he knows put a new STOCK cable in at his shop and it broke multiple times since then. Dad called Lou and he sold him a new cable (not sure on brands or what) and it has not been a problem since.

if the clutch fork is the same length as stock thats the problem. the mounting location where the cable slides through the bell housing is further away from the centerline of the tranny. if you look up towords the bottom of your bell housingis the cable perfectly parallel with the bell or is it running at an angle? ill bet its at a pretty steep angle. AFM sells an extended clutch fork that corrects this problem, if you cant cut and extend the fork yourself.
