DVD camcorder help??

A buddy of mine needs some help, posting for him...

I got a Samsung DVD camcorder for christmas. I recorded our family christmas. It filled the entire DVD I pushed the finalize button and it goes through it's little process, and then finishes like the disk is finalized I then tried to play it, nothing shows up. I go in and realize that it still allows me to finalize it (meaning it didn't finalize in the first place) so I try again, same result. I got frustrated pulled that DVD and put another in and taped about 15-20 minutes of 30 minute capacity disk hit finalize...no problem everything works fine. Can you tape "too much". Does the DVD need to have enough room to finalize? I hope I didn't lose all of that video, but if I did at least I will know to not tape all the way to the end of a DVD. I think that is a pretty stupid setup, the DVD has 30 minutes and I can only tape 20-25? Any body know anything about these things?

Looks like no one has a lot of experience with these cameras yet maybe?

I have a Sony DVD type......never had that happen. It almost seems as if the disk may be bad. You shouldn't be able to "Over tape".....it stops automatically. Sorry I'm not much help....
