Penguins Make Move!
From ESPN.com:
"The Pittsburgh Penguins have traded defenseman Ryan Whitney to the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for left wing Chris Kunitz and prospect Eric Tangradi, sources have told ESPN.com.
Whitney, who missed the first 31 games of this season with a foot injury, has 2 goals and 11 assists in 28 games. The fifth overall pick in the 2002 NHL draft, Whitney is in the second year of a six-year deal. He has 34 goals and 116 assists in 253 career games.
Kunitz, in his fifth NHL season, has 16 goals and 19 assists this season for the Ducks. In 315 career games, all but two of which have been for the Ducks, he has 81 career goals and 111 assists."

That really not that big for the NHL ... not saying he could play like a power forward
PJ's right about this Tangradi ..... looks very promising!
6-3 214lb "puts a little grit in his game" & "The only missing piece with Tangradi is putting it all together and continuing to fill the role of a power forward on the ice"

saved a little $ in trade in future years
Whitney, 26, has four more years on a new deal that pays him $3.5 million in 2009-10, $4.5 million in 2010-11, $5 million in 2011-12 and $5.5 million in 2012-13.
Kunitz, 28, has three more years on his deal, paying him $3.6 million next season, $3.8 million in 2010-11 and $4 million in 2011-12. He's an underrated player who will add to a Pittsburgh group that also includes Crosby, NHL scoring leader Evgeni Malkin and Jordan Staal.

staal needs to go IMO..
I think you said it best. Whitney was a luxury at this point with Letang and Gols in the waiting. I liked Whitney, more when he was playing well of course lol...but there was no excuse for the Pens to pay him what he was owed when that money could be going else where...
Bringing in a wing like Kunitz with the ability to put up 50-60 points is huge, and dont take for granted his previous experience with winning the Stanley Cup.
Tangradi could be another piece of the puzzle down the line, with a huge upside! I like this deal more and more I think about it...
seems to be pretty physical, thats great.
