i think staal has been playing better in all aspects besides putting the puck in the net

i am sure we are not done, i think gill may be gone next week to make room for gogo
They said if he clears he will be going back to Wilkes-Barre.

I think its Cookes job to do that anyways...but thats only my opinion. I'm not trying to put Cooke down, but when they brought him in I saw him as a replacement for Ruutu...

So in my eyes he isn't filling the void there...

Staal, in my mind, has to go. People say "give him time", or "let him play 3rd line center". But we are paying him 4 mil just so we can wait for him to come around or play on the third line? No thanks. Aside from his rookie year, he has been a huge disappointment time after time.

Get some of that good top line talent that we need.

I do like the trades today and I do think there are more coming before next Wednesday. Hopefully it will be Staal for some one or some people.

I do like Thomas, Minard and Wallace. I think they give 110% when they play. I just wish they could play more.
I think if Staal can fetch you a quality return, you do it...if he stays he needs to go to wing. I agree, you can't pay a third line center 4 million a year. Talbot is a third line center...and I wouldnt pay him 4 million a year...that just puts it in perspective for me...

This trade yesterday was ok, I like it...only from the standpoint that Whitney needed a change of scenery and badly. I was never a huge Whitney guy, but even I was starting to feel bad for him. I think the biggest question and positive out of the trade will be Tangradi...

I am intersted to see the lines tonight, espcially the defense!

the defensive lines will be the same as wed nite i would geuss

staal does not want to play wing

i have thought many a time about putting malkin on wing with staal at center - i would like to see that tried

maybe kunitz on sids wing will let that happen

yea your right, the lines for defense will be the same...

i know staal doesnt want to play wing, and honestly at this point what does it really matter...just cause he would be playing wing doesn't mean he puts the puck in the open net any better than right now...how many more ideas can be thrown out there or moves could be made to help him out...

probably none...other than another jersey on his back?

    Thats about right.

Its his lack of talent that prohibits him from doing anything productive with the puck.

Oh well. Lets just keep paying him 4 mil, keep moving him around in the lines, passing on other talent, and maybe one day he will be good.

    TRADE! TRADE!
and like whitney, your trading at his absolute lowest trade value right now...

i belive it was maddens show yesterday i was listening to when he made a very good point too, who in the top 8 of the east is gonna trade with the pens for anyone of any importance...yea they might want staal and need a second line center...but if you spark the pens with someone they want are you really helping your cause?

the top 8 in the east see the pens as the team no one wants to play in the playoffs...let alone add any type of spark to them to get them rolling...

This is true and I've also thought about this. It can really be applied to almost any trade situation.

But also at the same time, I don't see a team sitting on a player that they don't want or that doesn't fit well into their team just to keep another team out of the playoffs. Other teams are going to make moves for what is best for them.

If they don't trade Staal or make any more moves I won't be terribly upset. ESPN says they don't think we can make playoffs with the team we have. I say we can.

With the team we have, we can certainly make the playoffs. How can they justify that statement when we are only 3 points out of a spot right now?

I think the Penguins are more a victim of their own doing, not so much from this roster. Fleury hasn't had the best year, but his defense in front has had an even worse year. But the soft goals, sloppy play in front of the net and in their own zone is all very correctable, and is not really a roster problem. I see it as more of a people on the roster not playing to their abilities problem. One more pass by Whitney to a player in another teams jersey was going to push me to the edge. Something had to be done. The trade happend and I think both sides will benefit from it.

I think Therrien did slow this team down when you look back at it. Bylsma has clearly jump started a new "line of thinking" with in-zone offense. The Pens were having a difficult time generating any type of forecheck before, and with forecheck comes more shots and better shots on goal. Look at how many times the Pens were out shot earlier this year, with Bylsma thats not happening. Now its up to the players to execute better and put the puck in the net!

    +100

All very good points. Its time for this team to step up and get into the playoffs. Bylsma was a needed change and I think the trade was for the better as well.

Someone should let Fleury in on a little secret: rebounds are bad!

I say F the Hawks tonight! Lets go PENS!!!!!

One thing that has me optimistic is the fact that they seem to be playing better and better each game, I think the team is just starting to get used to the new system. I know we played a scrub team a couple nights ago and a better team more than likely would have cashed in on alot of the shots the Isles had but still like laz said look at how many times we mustered only 18, 20, 22 shots on goal just a couple weeks ago. Getting pucks to the net create good things. I like the aggressive play and we have a team built for it....
