    speedo gear

    How do i change the speedo gear in my 1997 Gt.
    1997 Mustang GT- Sold
    MGW short shifter, Ford Racing 3.73s, JLT ram air intake, mach 1 chin spoiler, Off-road H pipe, Magnaflow Magnapacks, SCT X3 tuner, Full PI swap, steeda underdrive pulleys, 75mm throttle body, professional

    1999 Mustang Gt- On3performance 70mm single turbo, SCT ba2400 mass air meter, upr tubular k frame, upr front coil overs, 42lb injectors, walbro 255, kenne bell bap, pro 5.0 short shifter, 3.73 gears, Modular Head Shop stage 1 cams, SCT X3 tuner. Waiting on dyno tune!

    Im pretty sure 97 still had mechanical speedometers.....I would Imagine there is a cable attached to the side of the tranny...I would start there....Im not all that knowledgeable about speedo gears lol Im sure someone who knows better than I do will chime in soon

    i thought 95 was the last of the mech speedo's? no totoally sure

    It is, follow the cable to the tranny and its held on by one bolt. Unbolt it and pull it out, thats it..

    unplug the harness and pull it straight out. theres a C clip holding the gear on. pop the clip off and the gear slides off. then slide the new one on and put the clip back on and slide it in! easy as 1,2,3

    haha i think 96 and up are like that?? i could be wrong but i know 97 is!

    The clip likes to go flying when you pop it off. Be carefull not to loose it!

    i think most new gears come with new c clips?? i could be wrong but i think both of mine did. ive changed mine twice.
