I know there is the escape hybrid, but is there anything else? My Edge lease is up in August and I want to start looking now for its replacement. I'm open to cars, hybrids, diesels, etc as long as its AWD/4wd and gets a minimum of 30mpg in the city.

Rob, I have the order sheet sitting here in front of me for the 2010 Fusion hybrid because I was 99% sure I was ordering one, but it is not available with AWD, at least not for the 2010 model. If it was I'd be buying it no question.
I looked on the VW site and didn't see anything listed, but do they make the passat or any other VW with TDI and their 4motion AWD?

The weather is a little different here in the mountains. Unless I never leave Altoona, a 4wd is mandatory here, especially if I want any chance of going over Cresson Mountain. A FWD just won't cut it.

Paul, how many miles do you plan on putting on the car? I don't believe that most hybrid will pay off the difference between their traditional counterparts till around 75000 miles when gas is $3.50 or something like that. Don't quote that statistic, but it might be something worth looking into.
A lexus RX450H might be worth looking into, I Think it gets near 30?
Just get a cheep F-150 or Ranger. They are sitting around everywhere right now and the prices are low. Plus it will out last a little want to be 4x4. Dont forget you need clearance for the off road snow too. I high centered my STI and almost got it stuck one year. I guess on TV when they are running 80mph on back roads they dont have time to sink into the snow. lol

My buddies WRX gets 30 mpg highway....I would guess mid twenties around town. It also runs low 14's and handles pretty well.
It gets 22-23mpg when pulling a trailer and two race bikes.
