that is why I made this thread.... 5-20 is what Ford recommends and next oil change will prob be 5-20.

I use nothing but Rotella T Synthetic 5W-40 in all of my high performance vehicles.... The R1, the CRF450R, and the Trans Am ... its the best oil you can buy, and it can be had far cheaper than the comparables.... I would suggest it, but also wouldn't argue if you wanted to stick with the 5-w20 that Ford recommends

On the other hand, i use Mobil clean 5000 in the Harley truck... in a vehicle that's not beat on, i kinda think that as long as you change the oil faithfully and keep up with it, its not going to make a difference what oil you use... So i buy the clean 5000 b/c its SUPER cheap, made by a good name brand, and i change it @ 3000 miles faithfully.

here goes another question... What kind of oil change intervals would you suggest? I rarely drive my mustang (last year put on 400 miles) and use synthetic.

I use 5-30 mobil 1 extended protection (Gold cap). It is the best I have found so far along with K&N filters. I used it in my STI, Stealth TT, F150 and the Cobra and I have never had an issue.

I change it twice a year in the Cobra. Once in the spring when i get it out and again when I put it away. (400miles last year lol) In the f150 I change it when it looks bad. 9k or so and it still looks ok when it comes out or when I see fit.

I run mobil 1 5-20w with a Mobil filter...I decided to try an autolite thise time around so we'll see. Definetly dont run fram!!! I heard they break up and you get filter gauze everywhere internally. In your case once a year would be more than enough
    made some noise....and some boost...and 377/442 rwhp/rwtq

check your owners manual again, a windsor pi motor (which is what should be in your '99 if it hasn't been changed) takes 5w30 not 5w20.

96-98 & mid01-04 (romeo engines) take 5w20. 99-early 01 (windsor engines) take 5w30. if you have a 99 & the eng. was not changed it should be 5w30 (but you can put in whatever you want).
