I'm tellin you man buy new. Its easier trust me. It won't take as long except for saving money
ive also had my fair share of used turbo problems..
or get some Junk GN turbo's to use as cores and buy them here. thats what i did. they sell just center sections, or entire turbos

Yea im going turbo my boy that has a shop said we should go turbo. Its gona be a rear mounted twin turbo set up like the STS kit.I was on theturboforums.com and alot of guys run this set up and make god numbers and they do it for half the price of a kenne bell or pro charger and you options are better if i ever get forged internals I can turn the boost up or go to a bigger turbo with out buying a whole new kit,and it seemed like nobody had a S/C kit or they wanted a arm and a leg for a kit.I know you can also turn the boost up on S/C with a pulley swap but some S/C only give you so much and then you gota buy the next step up I see so many guys on these forums sayin they want to sell one S/C to get the next size(kenne bell guys) and thats another 3000 when with my set up a bigger turbo is like 750-1000
First off, if you do it right, going turbo is not cheaper than doing a supercharger....
Although, Remote mount setups are a great way to save some money, but i've seen a ton of people be dissapointed in their setups... Yes, you can save some money, and you don't NEED an intercooler, but just remember that since you went the cheaper route, you're not going to get the same performance.... Everyone i've ever seen gripes of major boost lag, along with the challenges of running oil lines, etc to the rear of the car...
Don't get me wrong... i'm not saying that you shouldn't do it... heck, if i were to do it all over again, i'd consider doing a remote mount setup - but only because I wouldnt plan on going as big again.... Just know that you're not going to get the same results... and if you can live with that, and be happy that you saved yourself a few $$, then sweet - its your car, you be happy with it!
One more note: a good turbo is not going to be under $1000 .... its been a while since i bought mine, but i'd expect $1,200 - $1,500 for a good ball-bearing turbo...

rear mounted kits require alot more piping and a pump for the oil..... 2 things that a kit under the engine bay dont need.
rear mounted will cost more.
I totally agree with them with the oil lines and piping. Couldn't of said it better myself. And yes a turbo is probally going to cost more that a vortech paxton or procharger. But if that's wat. You desire then by all means go for it!
You must be able to find turbo manifolds for pretty damn cheap then.....
I know they're more plentiful for mustangs than ls1's, but i would think they would command a pretty good price just for the sake of it.... As far as the piping, its no different than running an open exhaust to the back of the car, and then running it back forward again - not SUPER expensive, even using stainless... but if turbo manifolds for mustangs are cheap, then there might be an even cost there...
Or are mustangs able to use the flipped manifold setups? for example, a popular choice for budget builds on LS1's is to take a set of stock LSx truck manifolds, turn them around, and then attach the turbos up front.... honestly, i wish i had gone that direction, just for the sake of saving money

Ok I like the input I factored in the piping and the oil pump and that hsd me a lil scared.but rear mount would save me under the hood room.how else could you do a DIY kit under the hood somebody told me to keep them low another person told me just use a single turbo and put low on the drivers side.so give me some suggestions.I also heard you can use stock manifolds and make you own piping to the turbo/turbos.couldnt you switch side with the stock manifolds.like put the driver side on the passanger side and vise versa to make the out let face foward
I did the upside down swap headers deal on my sn95. Although I removed the power steering and the a/c, smog, moved the battery to the trunk, so I had tons of room under the hood. They were mounted up high so I had plenty of gravity feed to the oil pan.
lol, yeah you will be ahead of the game for sure. If you do come up with what you need / want used send them off to be rebuilt right away. These where all "good" used turbos
And it's not that guys are trying to screw you either, things like different oil pressure, drain line configuration ,etc all affect how they live. If you ever have one appart and see the turbine oil seal you would wonder how it even keeps oil in there in the first place.
