    some transmission troubles....

Im having a little problem with my tranny grinding while putting it in second gear. its a t-5 by the way

heres the catch though: it only does this going uphill while shifting into second.

EVERY other time i put it in second on a level surface or downhill, if i am upshifting, downshifting watever, it does NOT grind, and shifts nice and smooth. i havent tried putting it into other gears going uphill tho, only second. I've only driven it for probably a total of 1/2 mile since i got it running because of bad weather and not having it inspected or registered yet.

i am using (i think, hard to remember) penzoil ATF and i think its non-synthetic. and when i filled it up, i took the top plug out and filled through the shifter hole till it started pouring out of the top plug then plugged it back up. i dont see it leaking anywhere so i dont think its losing tranny fluid.

do i have enough fluid? should i switch to a better fluid? what is the deal here?

Different loads. Nope. Sometimes its smoothe on the flat.Easy shifting. Up hill there is more load and you scrub more speed between shifts. The fiber synchro material is worn down to almost nothing.

well if that is the case then i am a bit pissed off because a member on here sold me the tranny who said it was flawless and had no grinding or any other problems what-so-ever.

how expensive is it to fix a problem like this?

i dont know how much the synchros cost but the tear down and rebuild you can probably do yourself.
when i had my CJ-7 i ripped 3rd out of my t-5 and my dad had it fixed in under a couple hours

yeah i dunno ive never done it before...maybe ill buy a junk one and rebuild it and learn on that one rather than taking the only one i have out of the car and having my car sit again .....maybe i can live with it for a while because for now i think its only second.

it just pisses me off tho because of what i was told about the tranny before i bought it. i pm'ed the person i bought it off of to see what he has to say about it. so we will see what happens.

will a better fluid maybe reduce this grind a little more? maybe switching to synthetic?

Syncros work on friction. It's grinding because the fiber is off the syncro and can't work as intended. Adding a "more slippery" fluid will make it worse.

Talk with Rob (Wick) about fixing it ;)

ive been discussing this with some people and was told that maybe the clutch needs adjusted? i have stock cable and quadrant right now. i thought in order to adjust the stock one you had to put your foot under the clutch pedal and push up. i tried this, and it did not work and didnt do anything.

would maybe buying an adjustable cable and quadrant help fix this problem? i personally do not think it will since it shifts fine most of the time except for going uphill, but this is what ive been told to try. what do you guys think?

Where does the clutch start to engage? Right off the floor? If so, possibly yes. That will fix your problem. If its high, then no.

Mine two grinds every once in a while goin into second. Maybe a half a dozon to a dozen er so times since i've been drivin the car from 00' to present. Now I got the Short Throw in it, I've done it two or three times, once real bad! I just thought my clutch wasn't engaged quick enough and I wasn't used to the ST yet.
So I make sure I push the clutch the whole way to the floor before pullin it back. I was wanderin if it was my syncros too.
Yeah, how much does this cost to get fix? Will u ruin your tranny if u keep runnin it like this?
It never was like this all the time just, as soon as I forget about it or drive the car for a while it will just happen outta no where. And then, I'm like F***!!

Ryan, I can tell you that the person you bought it from is as stand up as they come. There's NO WAY he would ever try to rip anyone off.

The suggestions that the clutch may be out of adjustment is very possible. I had a similar issue with my 03 Cobra when I changed the clutch in it.

have someone get up under the car and pull back on the clutch fork and pick up on the pedal at the same time

yes Ed he is a good person...i have been pm'ing him and he is willing to help me out so its all good.

what was the type of adjustable cable you told me i should get that one time? or maybe it was a firewall adjuster? cause ill probably buy an adjustable cable and quadrant or a firewall adjuster and quadrant and see where that gets me
