Are you looking because you want to see better or for style??

If you want to see better, you need to re-wire the headlights with relays. Right now the power to the lights goes through the headlight switch. By re wiring with relays, the power to the headlight comes directly from the battery, and only the signal comes from the switch. There are "kits" for this out there complete with harness (APC, etc) or it can be self wired.

Do you still have the stock alternator? In most cases with the stocker you have to make a choice between lights and heat or defrost ;)

In general, the quality of those lights is not very good. They are cheap for a reason.

The only real way to get more light is with more / reliable voltage and the short comings of the early fox's are the wiring through the headlight switch, and alternator amperage.

I perfectly content with how the stock lights look. I just want to see better because i drive down 819 quite a lot and it's a dark a$$ road.

Yes i still have the stock alternator. If I wanted brighter lights and heat/defrost is there a better one to buy?

PA Performance is the most straightforward way to upgrade. You can do the 130 amp 3G upgrade and be able to handle anything, but the 95 amp 3G is a little easier to fit (usually no bracket modifications). You will also need an adapter plug, and power wire plus there is wiring you must do. When I did my old Turbo Coupe (lots of power accesories) I did the 95 amp and was happy. I now have a 130 amp on my Capri, but maily becasue I came across the alternator cheap ;)

You can accomplish the same thing with junk yard parts / part store rebuilds cheaper, but PA Perfromace has a great warranty, plus good tech support to make the conversion.

i concur. upgrade headlight wiring harness, relays... at the same time you can rewire them so all six lights stay on with HIs and fogs

i' ve been looking for some lights like that also (actually bmw style angel eyes)... except TRUE HIDs. hella makes a nice setup but it's the larger (5x7?) lens. i'll lyk if i come across anything good :)

How much brighter does this make them?

The Marchel stuff goes for big $$$'s when it comes up on eBay. The hard core four eye guys are stupid crazy for those parts and buy them to hoard them.

I have a few parts here (only one lense), and am really thinking about leaving the fog light set-up out of my car this winter when I swap to an aluminum front bumper.

I really think the best solution is to shop for a light that looks similar / same and do a swap. The Marchels are stupid expensive right now.

Keep in mind however, that a better/ stronger alternaor does not fix the basic issue with the headlights. Ford thought is wise to run the load for the lights through the headlight switch. If you up the amperage on your alternator, the light will get brighter, but the load on the light switch will also go up. Ultimately, to get bright lights you need to do the realy set-up for the lights too, and I would suggest it first.

That fixes the lights, but they will still dim with heat / defrost because of the load on the alternator.
