    Ruger SR-9

Anyone have one or shot one yet? I handled one at the gun store last week and I really like it...feels good. Guns & Ammo mag TV did a review of it not too long ago. I've heard nothing but good things about it, as well as being accurate. However, I haven't seen any target pics or even grouping measurements.

Just wondering what other opinions there are out there. I think this might be my next gun purchase...

Shot one into the water tank at the lab a week ago. Cant give you any accuracy results but i like it ALOT better than their P series pistols. Much slimmer and i like the hammerless striker fire design.

    Ruger=Fail

I have or have owned more guns than most people you would know, from HK's to Glocks, Sigs, Wilsons, Kimbers, Colts, S&W, etc and yes even Rugers. The only Ruger ever worth owning is the Ruger Mark I or II 22 or the Ruger 10/22. Ruger is not a good choice for a semi-auto handgun. Stick with one of the proven three for combat type handguns, Glock, HK or Sig.

    What amount the Mini 14?

I agree Glock, HK and Sig are the bomb but for my old P91 is a very accurate piece and it was dirt cheap ... to bad it's not very practical to carry.

It's an ok gun, not very accurate, high cap mags are hard to come by and expensive. Not many accessories available, but if you are looking for something to just plink with, it will do.

No Glocks. Can't stand them. Just looking for something cheap to shoot and have fun with. I already have a CCW that I use. The Beretta PX4 is also nice...and accurate.

    Smart man!

Not a fan at all. Very inaccurate, plus the barrel is so thin that it gets even MORE inaccurate after a couple of rounds through it. I only kept mine for a few months before selling because I disliked it so much. I get better groups from my SKSs.

People rip on the Mini-14 too much. It's not designed to put holes in a dime at 100yds. It has a flimsy ass barrel and was meant for shooting rodents on a ranch. People compare them to AR-15s, and hell no they aren't half as accurate as an AR-15. I think the reason everyone rips on them is because they cost too damn much, which is true. But, if you keep looking you can find a good deal on one. I bought my 183 series I think it is for $250 and it shoots just fine. Fun to play with, groups as well as any $250 semi-auto .223 rifle at 100yds, and is fun.

The new minis are coming with slightly thicker barrels and better set ups. They even have a target model one out now. I bought the mini-14 to shoot once and sell, never did have any desire to sell once I shot it. I have both a Mini-14 and a Bushmaster .223 AR-15 A2 H-BAR 20" rifle, and yes the AR shoots a hell of a lot better. Doesn't mean the Mini is junk.

Sorry for the thread jack :)

Hole in a dime at 100 yards? You'd be lucky to put a hole in a basketball with a Mini-14. I wasn't asking for a tack driver, but targets that look like I hit them with 00 buck just don't cut it. And good luck finding one for $250 nowadays too.

Bottom line is you get what you pay for, if someone is happy spending 500-600 $ on a mini thats up to them.

I have a 10/22 and a Mark II, both are great guns and you can get lots of accessories for both. They are proven to be great 22's. And IMHO are the two best guns Ruger ever made.

As for the mini 14, it's proven nothing but thats it's a subpar rifle at best.

Well I don't know about getting the best for your money because I too think Mini's should cost a lot less. Mini's aren't worth the cash that they bring but I wouldn't call it a shitty rifle.

I agree with you on the 10/22 and the mark 2. I have a Stainless target model 10/22T and at 50yds with junk federal bulk ammo I can shoot the hell out of a target and it groups great for my twitchy self with the junk ammo I use. It was expensive after tax and scope but I'd definitely do it again. Bought a nice Pro-Staff Nikon 3-9x40 or so $200 scope and it works beautifully.

Friend of mine has an SR9. Something was wrong with it when he first shot it. Sent it in to get fixed and now he loves it. If you want cheap and fun go check out the S&W Sigma series...but still: Glock FTW

Mini-14s are cool for a protection gun and taken out ground hogs... still used today in jails.... but honestly id spend the extra few hundred bucks and get a bushmaster or S&W - M&P ar-15.... i have a bushmaster ar15 and hardly use it... love it just dont got the time to shoot it.
I prob put 600-800 into it with a good scope... vertical grip with bipod, rails system and 3 point tac. harness... the 3 point tac harness is SIIICK!

Pistols.... i love my Sig and XD45!

I have a sigma 380 auto and have been fairly happy with it. It's a little picky on ammo, but the best target ammo I found for it so far is the Cheap CCI blazer brass. Spear gold dots work well too, but they aren't cheap.

My next handgun is going to be a Thomson center contender with a 45-70 barrel. can't wait till Ihave the cash for this one.
