I had a set of Trick flow heads fixed at B&R and it took them 3 MONTHS. I'll never get any work done there again.

I agree with B&R not being quick. I had a set of done there back in the 90's and I told them I wasn't in a hurry. It ended up taking at least 3 months with me making weekly calls the last month. For most of my stuff, I use DLK in Russellton.

Bob at ICS has done two motors for me. Bob isn't the cheapest but, the work was good quality & he it was ready when he said it would be.

Just thought I'd bring this back up to get more opinions....

Has anyone else besides Timmy used KMP performance in West Newton??

    Also for pricing:
    DLK (Russelton) SMO(Houston)
    8 cyl bore w/ tq plate 375 175(no plate)
    hot-tank 78 75
    cam brg install 35 30
deck block 178 75 (maybe misheard him)

For the price difference DLK better be good!

Rhoades Performance right outside of Somerset has been in business a long time and does good work. They do a ton or circle track engines and alot of other local hot rods/drag cars.

then again you can't really put a price on it. good work cost money. and having something machined is only as good as the person operating the equipment

I took the 302 block from my '84 mustang to DLK to get redone. They cleaned it, checked it then called to ask what I was going to use it for. When I told them they said not with this block. It would be good for a general rebuild for an everyday driver. They didn't charge me a penny for any work already done to it. I picked up block and junked it.

They have done cut, polished, radiused my 351 crank. Had them balance rotating assembly and both times it was done in a week. Course it depends how busy they are.

I've dealt with Jeff at DLK.
Cost $146.06 with tax and misc fees to have crank done.
Cost $258.62 with tax and misc fees to have rotating assembly balanced.

Do yourself a favor and don't pick a machine shop based on price.
    Choose the highest quality workmanship.

Jeff (at DLK) is great to deal with and most of the guys in the shop have been there forever. They definitely might not be the cheapest but they are very particular and always have my stuff done in a week or two.

Just my 2 cents, but I always want my overboring done with a torque plate. The torque plate bolts to the block in lieu of the cylinder head, supposed to be more accurate for the bore, less distortion.

    Usually anyway.

evaniuks is in north versailles, he is an old school ford guru.

has a dyno room there also to break your motor in.
he is very very good, but be prepared to open up your wallet and he can be slow.

    BBF's don't need torque plates. That's why they're the best. :)

The only reason I would consider paying more at DLK is the fact they can sonic check the block where-as SMO doesn't have the tool.

I agree......you always get what you pay for....but those are just two places I inquired about pricing. IMO SMO has always done fine for me on things I needed done and they seem like stand up guys. Just becuase you're paying more doesn't garuntee you're getting a better job.

Ran into a guy tonight at the gas station that was filling some gas jugs commonly used for racing....and he was wearing a jegs hat so I figured he might be into racing.....turns out he runs a 68 Dart chassis car that does 8.60's-8.80's. He said savini machine has been good to him for over 20 years.
