i was out looking at tvs tonight and was wondering whats a better picture the 720 plasma or the 1080 lcd? i know 1080 is better than 720, but plasmas better than lcd, right? so does that mean they balance out? i never had this problem when i bought my rear projection tv back when. damn technology, whys it so confusing.

I have a 55 inch and a 42 in 1080p LCD. LCD is the future. Not to mention LIGHTER when hanging it on your wall.

720p and 1080p the difference is there are more pixels per square inch with a 1080 so the picture will be sharper.. Biggest question you have to ask yourself is, what are you going to do with it? Get HD? buy a blue ray player to watch HD movies? or are you just going to watch basic cable? if your going to watch just basic cable then, buy a quality 720p plasma or LCD TV that you can get repaired where you bought it.. If the they can't service it, then if you have a problem, good luck on getting it fixed with out sending it back to the manufacture.. Read below on Plasma.

That was the old days or a poor quality name TV's..
It happened to people that sat and watch the home shopping network all day and had the box in the left hand corner burn in the screen.. Today's plasma's only need up to 200 hrs to get set in, after that, burn is gone (on top brands)
Some plasma's have a white wash screen to take care of that.. Check yours to see if it has it..

True about lighter! LCD are just easier to make in more screen sizes than Plasmas. Plasmas only come in some sizes, like 42's 50's and 60's They cost more to make because of the technology to build them. Also Plasmas have a faster refresh rate than LCD's.
LCD's are common to have 60 hertz and plasmas have a 180 hertz and you have to pay a lot more to get 120 hertz in a LCD.. 120 hertz get rid of the fast moving blur or shadowing you get from the slower 60 hertz.

If you want to know more. call me.. I sell them so I can help you. No I don't make commission. I hoped this helped you out some ..

720 is fine if your not watching blu ray. and if you get the lcd then make sure it is 120 hertz. plasmas are usually higher than 120 which makes them nice.

What one is it? 42PG20? Christmas 08 or 07.. If its a 2007 model. its in the menu under picture options. should say white wash. select it and it's a white screen that gets rid of any burn in. Just leave it on for, I don't know 10, 20 minutes. Really how long it takes to get rid of burn in.. If your going to leave something paused for a while like that, shut the tv off till you come back. that would be the best thing to do..

Good pick.. 40" to 42" is a common size everyone is buying so, the price is better on them than the other sizes.. My prices drop more on that size than any others..

Just make sure they can service it, where ever you buy it from. If not, be ready to ship it back to the manufacturer for repair. Keep the box..

Don't get a display model, there on for 12hrs a day and you lost a lot of time on it.. Get one in a box, if not, see if they will put up an extra warranty for the display model..

Supposedly you can get Verizon FIOS in 1080P that is what my installer told me. Now about refresh rates, the only sources that can take, My Samsung LCD is a 1080P with a 75HZ refresh rate. The only sources that can take advantage of a highr refresh rate than that are blu ray and LCd. Having that stated, most blue ray and HD DVD players automaticlly ruduce their refresh rates so the slower TV's can display their signal. The truth is, that you won't be able to tell the diff between the 75HZ like I have and a 120Hz unless you have a source that can make use of the 120HZ. If you don't believe me you can look it up. My TV has 0 Ghosting porblems with a sony blue ray or my FIOS Tv.
