    Help!!! Dumb Questions!

I traded my street bike for my 99 gt and it is supposed to have a butt load of work already done to the motor. This is my first mustang and I'm slowly learning but I need to know if there is anyone on here that I could look over my car to so that they could verify any of the work done. I was given a list of upgrades that are supposed to be on the car but as for engine internals im clueless on how to verify them. I want to supercharge the car and I need someone to tell me how much boost I can run without harming the engine. The guy I bought the car from stated that he built the engine to be twin turboed but lost interest installing the turbos. I will supply you with the list of mods so that u know what you will be looking for if it's at all possible.

I just don't want to buy supercharger that only puts out minimal boost if I can get alot more out of the engine. I prefer to have a reputable shop perform this work and someone with a dyno is a plus. Once I get all this figured out and I purchase the blower you can count on return business.

Thank in advance for any suggestions!

I don't think you're going to be able to verify the engine internals without tearing the darn thing down.....

As for bolt-ons, that should be pretty easy to verify yourself...

Bolt ons are verified. The car is supposed to have a forged crank , manley h beam rods, manley pistons (which I know will need torn down to verify but if the crank and rods are there why would he lie about pistons) its also supposed to have valves ,springs and such. I do know it has different cams because of the way it runs and he gave me the stock ones. I just don't wanna over or under boost the engine. I know this sucks not doing the build myself but I gotta deal with the cards I was delt.

I wonder if the pistons are stamped with any markings on top? Maybe one of the fine vendors on here have some type of camera that could look into one of the spark plug holes to see the top of the piston. If the pistons are what the guy says, I'd be comfortable thinking that the rest of the bottom end is as what he told you.

That would be nice. I just figured if they pulled the oil pan that they could see the crank and rods. I don't know if there id any destinct way to tell if the crank is forged or not. I don't know enough about these cars yet.

No markings on top of the piston. Besides tearing the oil pan off in looking through the bottom there's no other way of verifing it.

I talked to previous owner once again and he again swears that the parts listed were put in the car. It's been almost a year now so he really don't have a reason to lie. Guess I'm gonna take his word for it.

You can also find out who did the machine work and it can be verified through them. Or if someone buillt the motor you can check that way too.

I was told that the engine was built by a ford tech in New Jersey. So I would have a lot of searching to do to find him.

Hey Dan, post the lift and duration of the cams, the compression of the pistons and type of valve springs. Assuming forged rods and crank. Fish around with that info on here and see if you catch anything! 1) Looking for what RPM this engine can possibly rev to now. 2) What PSI to run the supercharger at once installed to get the most out of this particular engine.

As for the lift and duration of the cams I have no clue. All I was given was that they are high lift comp cams. And that the compression is 10.5:1 with w/ manley stainless valves and manley behive springs. I'm not an engine builder. I'm a paint and body guy. Thats why I need help so that I can learn.

You probably don't want to run tooo much boost on a 10.5:1 engine... either that or make sure you have lots of life vests.... Boosted motors are usually between 8.5 and 9.5 ... Any tuner will know what to do, but you'll wanna keep the timing pulled back on the tune ... also, i'd suggest putting a meth injection kit on there as a safety factor to prevent detonation...

Well I just spoke to john Lund and he is gonna write me a tune for the car for the time being. I gotta verify the compression in psi for him because the car is supposed to have dished pistons and he said that the ratio I told him was for flat tops. Again I'm just going by what I was told when I bought the car.

    Thanks for everyones help.

Well, just my opinion, I would say this is a stock motor with the heads redone. My opinion only. The only sure way to know is to do a tear down. That's the only way that you are really going to know exactly what you have.
