Dan, I have a stock h-pipe you can borrow to get it inspected if you need to. They're fairly easy to swap out and you can just put yours back on afterwords. Then if you drive the car less than 5000 miles you can get an emissions exemption the next time you get it inspected and you won't have to go through the hassle of swapping out the exhaust.

What Ray said or find a place that will look past the "visual" inspection. As long as you have the o2 lights off through your tune, it will pass just fine on the computer.

Where are you going to be living back this way?? Certain counties only have visual emissions.... Three years ago when I had my LS1 inspected, the guy didn't bother to look under the car... i even forgot to turn off the SES lights for the cats ... he didn't pay any attention ....

If you're in allegheny county, you better take the suggestion of the gentleman above

When you get back into town we can swing down to Scott Pink Automotive on Little Pine Creek Rd. He's a friend of mine and he might look the other way.

OBD 2 cars do not get a visual inspection in Allegheny or Westmoreland counties. The check engine light must light with the key on and go out when you start the car and the moniters must be ready for testing. 1996-2000 can have 2 moniters not ready and 2001-up can have 1 moniter not ready. If you don't have cats and the check engine light is on you could clear the codes and do a drive cycle to try to get enough moniters run to pass. Cats must fail 2 drive cycles to light the check engine light. It may set a code on the first drive cycle, but as long as it doesn't light the light it passes. Also if you owned the car for a year and can prove you put less then 5000 miles on it a full calender year you can get an exemption in this state.

For the inspection part however. Might be a issue with no cats. Depends on the inspector.

That is true, but it is only in counties with out an emissions test. For instance Allegheny county doesn't get a visual with the safety inspection.

ok so here is my deal. i bought the car in June from a guy in Virginia. I have put way less than 5000 miles on the car since i have bought it. right now it is registered in Virginia, but i plan on registering it in Pa once i get home from deployment. i am an alleghany county person. my check engine lights dont light up while the car is running. it lights when i turn the key on and goes off once its fired up. so does that sound like i will be ok and i wont have to worry about a visual inspection?

If the cars moniters are ready, the gas cap passes, and the check engine light does what it should it will pass. If you wait until you have owned it 1 full year and can prove you have less than 5k miles on it in that year you can get an exemption. Either way whoever tests it isn't breaking the law.
