Quoted because this was a really, realy good post.Well that is a point of debate and a matter of opinion. Even the most skilled driver can crash, killing himself or others, due to driver error.
I'm not saying that I'm innocent. I've raced both on my bike and in my car when I had both of them. I've done stupid things in the past and I'm sure I will make more mistakes in the future.
But you ask why cops harass people that street race. They do it do avoid situations like this:

Granted, they are not rapists or a drug dealer but there are lives being lost everyday due to stupid actions. You talk about going after murders and other real problems in the society. What about all the people that act recklessly and kill innocent bystanders and or themselves? Try making this point to someone that lost someone in a street race or just a stupid vehicle accident. It wouldn't go over too well.
For the most part, cops have a pretty challenging job as it is: going into situations everyday that could cost them their lives just to deal with lowlifes in society. Sure, there are some dickhead, power trip cops out there but that does not represent the whole. There is all kinds of crime out there, some more severe then others, but it all needs to be addressed. We give cops the power to address all of these crimes as they see fit. A cop cannot see a street race and just say to himself "oh, well I should ignore that because I could probably catch a rapist or murder right at this moment".
Cops harassing kids in parking lots is in a different catagory then actual street racing. Maybe the cop doesn't have anything else to do or likes his position of power. You see this all the time in smaller departments and towns. But what if they cop is just trying to avoid one of the above mentioned videos?

We had a car towed into a bodyshop/local impound I worked at several years ago. It was torn in 2. He was street racing. The accident claimed the life of a 5 year old girl. Thats reality. Another car traveling at a high rate of speed crashed in town just a couple months later. The hood came through the windshield and decapitaded the passenger. The driver died 2 days later. Both under 20 years old. The police said the speed was 100 MPH +. Like has been said we all have made and will make mistakes. Most young people think it can't happen to them. When you get older you will most likely realize how lucky you were not to have killed anyone or yourself. Try to remember that you could easily take the life of someone's mother, father, or child. Besides all that, there are racetracks of everykind within 50 miles of here. Why take the chance?
Me, I'm not much of a street racer. Its a struggle hookin my ride up loot wise, not alone payin for fines or gettin points, goin to jail, gettin my ride impounded, crashin, killin someone or myself. I'm more or less do it legal kinda person. I ain't scared to run anybody thou, take it to a track.
I think people who hook there cars up to go faster or just in general need to run'em more. People nowadayz are alot of talk and not alot of follow thru. BACK IT UP!
I might get on it a bit u know here and there, but all out racin it on the street is risky business. Its kinda like race at your own risk kinda deal. Although I have an obsession for watchin it on You-Tube! Stockholm's we're its at thou! Birka Cups and all the ones they hold over there are off the Hook!!

I don't street race myself or condone it but I can see why people do. The Flashlight Drags were perfect for everyone to get it out of your system legaly but as usual the Goverment has stepped in and pretty much ruined that. I can honestly say ive seen a decline of street racing in my area but im sure it will be back this summer. The only other option is to go to PRP and waste 5 hours in the staging lanes.
