Thread: SCT Performance Chip.

  1. #1

    SCT Performance Chip.

Well, I'm looking to get some horsepower, and soon..I'm ordering my throttle body soon, and was looking at the 4 bank eliminator chip instead of a whole tuner, and they say they can email you free tunes for life with purchase?..Sounds pretty good, especially for the price...

Anyone have any experience with these? I read the "de-structions", and it didn't seem to hard to install, just need to be super careful..let me hear your opinion!

heres a Tip, get someone to make you a tune. dont buy one through the mail.......

you want a tune to be dead on. not "close"

Whats wrong with the Xcal 3. It can hold 3 custom tunes just like your chip. You can have tunes emailed to you and download them to the tuner. Its plug and play.

what blkp42e meant was, SCT is definitly a great product, I used an xcal2 w/ my cobra and I loved it. Emailing tunes is "ok" for an average modded car, IE exhaust, intakes, etc etc... Anything boosted or engine changes, need to be spot on w/ tunes. The email trick doesn't work. Too many variances come into play, octane, altitude, even intakes can change a tune DRARASTICALLY. It's money well spent to get any car correctly tuned for it's application, especially now that everyone here has access to 2 great shops w/ dynos, wolfpack and rodeheavers

well eff the chip..was just reading a bit more, and if you need a new tune, you gotta' send the chip BACK OUT to them, and they'll tune it and send it back..kind of dumb..maybe i'll jus save and look into the tuner...

but in the mean time, i will check out mike and jon's prices, and maybe jus get them to tune it for now..?

You don't need a tune. Save the $400. I had two N/A bolt-on mustangs custom tuned and it seriously didn't do shit over the mail-order tune. AND, the mail-order tune didn't seriously do shit over stock, either.

I already had a hand-held programmer in my current '01 (to adjust for the gears basically) with an 87 and a 93 tune from Modular Depot. After I had the cams/headers installed, I went to SGS to get it "custom" tuned. Guess what, it picked up NOTHING. Dave Guy actually said, "Modular Depot knows their shit, they were pretty damn close." He did fix a minor driveability and starting problem....

Until you get some type of Nitrous/Turbo/Supercharger, put your money somewhere else unless you absolutely need the tuner to turn your O2 sensors off or correct your speedo.

Just my .02 cents. Tell me fuuck off all you want... just trying to save a brother some money.

coilovers not worth it. IMO too much money. TB not worth it on a stock motor with nothing else done to the manifolds etc. JMO

    thats my 4 cents

I beg to differ on the t/b, but you have to get the upper plenum along with it. It might only give you 5-8hp total with both, but the throttle response alone is worth it.
