    Beagles will "run". If they find a scent that interests them, they will take off. They need to be tied or securely fenced in or they'll take off.

    I second that. Yo don't let a beagle loose or they will be gone looking for a scent.

    As for the eating thing, my Beagle was never a big eater, I guess it may just be the dog sometimes.

    Our beagle is never tied. when she has her nose to the ground she will wander but all I have to do is call her and she comes,but we don't leave her out with out being with her.

    I use to have one when we lived out in elderton. It would go off in the woods for like an hour but always come home.

    Beautiful puppy!! A friend of mine had a beagle, it was too smart for it's own good. He kept her in a large fenced in yard but she learned how to actually climb the fence to get out. The bad thing is she wondered onto the highway and got hit. It was sad, she was a good dog.

    Yeah and they bark like crazy too. Our neighbors have two and they never shut-up.

    thats not true for all beagles. some do some don't. and my experiance are the ones that bark all the time are usually the better hunters too.
