    2005 Gt auto

Anyone have a new edge gt with an auto trans? How does it run? Was looking at one and I prefer a stick.

i never owned one but drove a few and i really liked the feel on them. def get a stick you can actually feel how much power is wasted with an auto. The only thing i dont like about any of the new cars is the weight but you wont regret it.. Def talk to mr. viper ed he dd one for a while

Wifey has a friend with an '06 auto. Yes, it's a girl.

Anyway, her old man took me for a ride in it. There's so much slop in that tranny, it seems like time stops for a few seconds between shifts. I don't know if that much can be tuned out of them or if somebody has a decent shift-kit out yet for that 5-speed auto???

I'd wait for a stick if it was me.

I am confused. Are you asking about a new edge GT (99-04) or a S197 (05+)? Your title reads 2005 GT but you are asking about a new edge.

New edge to me is the s197. 94-04 is sn95. I am asking about 05 up with auto trans. I mean I heard the tranny's can be built hella strong but is it really worth it vs a 5spd.

The 5R55S is a good tranny, a good tuner can do a good bit with them! Where it becomes an issue is in high hp applications. There is aftermarket support for them but they have a long way to go...

Could get a good rebuild and stall converter would wake it up alot. Good as in the high end clutches. Converters are the pricey part for an aod/4r70

Yeah..I looked into a few things like a shift kit, shifter, and so on..I still never did figure out of 97Lasered's shift kit out of his 97 v6 auto tranny would have worked in mine...

Sticks are fun and fast with a good operator, hard to beat a well set up auto though. Doesn't matter if it is the street or strip...

well you cant say that...it is was it is. sn95= 95-98 NewEdge= 99-04 and S197=05-09 idk about the 2010. but either way. I have a 01 with a 4R70W and I wouldn't ever get a manual. a shift kit, valve body, stall, tuner, and gears and your set. LenTech auto does the 4R70W. not sloppy. just get a tuner and gears to stop the LITTLE hestitation*

As Troy mentioned we have a buddy that is running 12.2 at 111mph in his NA auto '05 GT. All he has is a tuner, headers, high flow X pipe, cat back, gears, CAI, converter, and a tuner. He just put cams in it and made some SICK new dyno numbers. It "should" be an 11 second NA car soon. I swore I'd never own an auto, but after seeing how well his runs, I would if it was an '05+ GT. I'd never own an auto '04 and older stang though.
