    Gun guys, look here too...

I saw John post up about guns and it made me motivated to finally ask some questions.

I live in WV, but want to purchase some handguns legally and have them in my home for protection.

Point me in the right direction! I have asked other people who I thought might know but I never get a clear answer on what I am supposed to do...

Assume I know nothing about the process, because I probably know nothing that I should.

If your looking to get a permit to carry, I would go to your local court house or city court house for more information, they'll definantly be able to point you in the right direction. Maybe even give them a call..

As for just wanting some guns in the house, I'm sure it wouldn't be a problem just to buy one and that'd be that..Not too familair with WV laws, so I could be wrong..But the court house should help ya out!

    1. Purchasing weapons varies from state to state, but you will probably have to go thru a background check, and some sort of a waiting period. Assuming you have never owned a gun, a safety or shooting course for handguns would be recomended, especially if your considering concealed carry. I have had a ccw for 4 years now and probably carry about 2% of the time.
    2. Gun choices are up to you and vary on uses. You dont need a 8.75 in. barrel .44 mag to carry or for home protection, but something med. caliber i.e. .38,9mm,or .45 and light bodied so its easily handled and concealed.
    3. get familiar with what you buy. Practice, practice, and more practice. Hope all this helps.

I don't think i have heard of any laws saying you couldn't have them in your house. You can have any gun within reason in your house. It only really governs when you start carrying them. Typical stuff not supposed to be loaded. Handguns should be carried seperate from ammunition only real transportation of firearms laws I can think of. Though, in the house do what ya want.

    Thanks guys...

Not looking to carry, this is strictly for home protection. So looks like I wouldn't have to do anything except buy the handgun I want and register it?

To register it I just go to my local couthouse?

Go to Gander Mountain/Cabellas, buy gun, they will do the registration of the gun. This is how it is in PA. You walk out with a registered weapon in 1 hour.

Like everyone else said its really easy to buy a gun now. they do the check via phone and you get your gun the same day. even getting a permit to carry is easy for the most part. If you are just interested in a gun for home defense I would really recommend a shotgun. Dont have to be a skilled shot to hit your target, and also you dont have bullets going the whole way through the home and maybe strking a neighbors house or even worse someone else.

If you were to only have one gun and it is strictly for home defense, then the shotgun is the best choice. There are plenty of options and for the most part a good home defense shotgun can be had for under 400.00.

I personally have a remington 870 with a 18.5" barrel, +3 mag tube extension for 8 rnds of 00 buckshot.

I would also recommend getting one with a full stock not one with a pistol grip, a little easier to handle and shoot.

Snake shot is for snakes, not personal defense.

True, but if you have what is considered "non lethal ammunition" they cant put you on trial for attempted homicide. They CAN if you have ammo that is made for killing.

If your worried about going to trial for defending yourself then get rid of the gun.

Where does one buy this non-lethal ammo that prevents you from going to trial, cause I have to get me some

You can get it from all the major gun retailers. Gander, cabellas..etc. I will post some pics of mine if you have never seen it before.

Here are some pics. On the left is a standard copper jacket 9mm and the right is the "shot" ammo. Hope this helps you understand the difference. And if you think you cant be prosecuted for protecting your own home, think again.

Attempted? Hardly you make sure that SOB is dead as a dead can get for trying to get in your house and harming you or your family and he can't sue you for being a freaking jackoff and getting his ass handed to him for doing so. Just kill the SOB and no worries. Just be sure they have a weapon.
Your right they may not try you for homicied but, they may get you for whatever you do to him like take out an eye or cripple him by damaging some nerve. Hydroshocks,00 buck are the best way to cure this bullshit system.
