    Pinion Seal

Seems mine is leaking.. pretty bad.

Im wondering what's involved with replacing it.

Anyone ever have to replace theirs??

I think I'll call the garage Monday and see if it's covered under my warranty still.

Just wondering what you all can tell me.

    Thanks!

I think we can replace it by removing the driveshaft and not having to mess with the gears. I just wanted to know for sure.

    yep

Remove the four driveshaft bolts, and take off the pinion nut, and pull the snout off, you can drive the seal out by edge of it with a hammer and small flat chisle, or screwdriver.... if thats all you have, clean the area out with a rag, and put a little oil where the contact surface is, find a seal driver or you can drive it in with a hammer if your Careful! Put snout on, tighten nut and tourqe to spec, and same with driveshaft,,,,,EASY
    JUNK IT!

    Awesome. Thanks.

We were just worried about having to remove the gears.

I told him "If that's the case, might as well go with a different set of gears"

    He laughed..

    I was serious! lol

Thanks again for the instructions and help. Appreciate it =)

I just got off the phone with the warranty company and they said they need an official diagnosis from the garage, but that the pinion seal and bearings, if needed, are covered parts. That's a big relief!

My window motor needed replaced a while back and it was covered 100%, including labor.

Taking it tomorrow to the garage to be diagnosed.

Thanks again for the help =)

What warranty company? Is it one of those aftermarket ones? If so is it worth the effort to purchase one? Thanks

It's through GMAC - Universal Warranty Corporation. I got it 3 years ago when I purchased the car. I dont know if it's worth it.. I dont have the extra money to always put into the parts and labor. It's included with the price of my car, so as long as I can make that payment, it was worth it to me.

So far it's been good.. covering the window motor assembly and the pinion seal.

I put a pinion seal in my car. The yolk was a bitch to get out especially when your working on a car that sits so low to the ground but in the end I got it. After a couple launches and powershifts with the Mickey Thompsons and I'm due for a new one already :-D
