I used the Night shades on my 3rd brake light on my F150, twice. I found wet sanding to be the missing ingredient after screwing up the first time. Wet sand the lens to get them a little scuffed. Very light coat of paint, it'll look gray and spotty, let dry. Once dry, lightly wet sand. Repeat that about 7 times or until you get your desired tint. Add clear coat, wet sand, add another, wet sand. I keep it waxed and it hasn't faded in 3 years.
Testor's also makes a spray tint, I believe it's called window tint. If you're ever in a pinch you can usually find it at hobby shops and maybe even Wally World. Not as great as VHT, probably 4 more coats to get the same darkness.
Live free or die
yup...wet sanding is a must to make them look great imo
