Well with trying to figure out why my shift light was off above 4000rpm I solved my problems with random misfire codes coming up. Mostly the codes started well after the cam swap and days after having tune loaded. Went down hill Good Friday after I had emissions done. Since I have had my SES come with P0316(Misfire detected on startup - first 1000 revolutions) and P0300 Random misfire detected. I can clear it and they come on again in a mile or two. I have seen only once a code for random misfire cyl 3 and on cyl 8. Again only once they have ever come on. I was being told it's normal with cams etc and to have the codes removed in tune
Well I was using a Ford Tach Driver for a tach signal. It was powered by a seperate 12v feed and had two wires tied into the magnetic pickup for signal. I replaced it with an Auto Meter Tach Adapter. Which of course gets it's signal and power directly from the 12v coil feed wire. I didn't use any T or butt connectors, instead soldered everything into place. Well not a single misfire code has come up since and car seems to run a little better. Killed two problems with one try
Pin #34 on fire wall harness connector (happened to be a red wire). Cut wire in half. Soldered red lead from tach adapter to connector side and soldered red/green stripe wire from adapter to harness side of other half of red wire. Soldered tach leads together and bam nice easy and no more pulling my hair out. One of those little problems I never would have solved if shift light didn't have a digital tach readout and I could see what was going on down track.
