    94-95 Computer Compatibilty Question

    I Once Heard That If You Put A Computer From A Fox 5.0 In A 94-95 It Would Run A Little Better. Does Any One Know If This Is True And If So What Year Fox Computer Would I Look For? Thank You!

    fox computers are generally considered better ECU's. they accept modifications to the engine easier without as much drivability problems as the 94/95 ECU's will have with the same mods.

    i would say def. get a fox ECU for your 94/95 stang but i am not sure if you can just plug it into the 94/95 harness or if you need to completely swap harnesses. im sure someone on here knows

    The swap is expensive, and all you end up with is a stock older technology EEC. Here's a post I made on the 94-95 EEC a while back on here.

    The EEC in the 94-95's also has a bad wrap as it was a little more touchy than the previous fox's EEC. The biggest difference is the 94-95 EEC is load based rather than RPM based like the fox's. The load is determined mostly via the MAF, this is important to understand because when we start running larger injectors and "calibrated" MAF's you are changing the load, and load is used in all spark and fuel maps in the EEC. A calibrated mass air sensor is nothing more than a meter that has been modified to alter the output voltage of the MAF to the EEC to trick the EEC to think there is less air coming in than there really is... this makes the EEC cut back on the pulse width and therefore deliver less fuel, but since the injector is larger than the stock unit more fuel is actually supplied.

    The major turning hurdle for the 94-95's comes when a new cam is added. When a cam is added with a shorter than stock LSA the EEC often has a hard time finding an idle. It will surge up and down until it finally stalls. There is a lot of speculation as to why this occurs, but the easiest fix is to simply bump the idle speed with a tuning devise like a chip/tweecer/eec tuner, etc.

    The A9L swap may feel faster because the tip-in and timing retard in the 94-95's is greater than the old A9l. Ford did this to help decrease transmission warranty issues. The only way to fix this is to powershift the car or tune the timing retard/tip in settings. The EEC uses TPS voltage to know when a shift is made and it will retard the timing and thus making for sluggish response when the next gear is hit, powershifting eliminates this because the EEC never knows a shift was made and therefore doesn't pull timing. The T4MO is a much faster processor than the A9L. I'd NEVER put an A9L in my car.

    I don't believe the Fox computers have the ability to turn on/off the electric fans on the sn-95 cars. A good tune of your 94 ECU from someone who knows how would probably be more economical and less work that swapping computers IMO.

    That's correct, but a $30 fan relay kit from Summit can fix that. I still never understood why people that are interested in doing this don't just change to the Fox engine harness, rewire the fans to run off a temp sensor and relay and put the Fox computer in. This would be very cheap to do as opposed to the outrageously priced conversion harness that came out for these cars. Must be all the people without the know how to do a simple job and just fork out cash for the final result.
