    Help! PCV system overhaul needed

    Hi all.

I am preparing to overhaul my PCV system because I am getting some oil in the intake runners and it has gotten a bit worse now that the Vortech is installed.

Does anyone have a recommendation on check valves, catch cans, oil separators, PCV valve replacements, breathers, etc..?

What I was going to do was to install a check valve between the PCV valve and the intake + add either an oil separator or catch can.

Also, was going to drill and tap my AFMS Power Pipe with a small barbed fitting so that I can connect up my oil fill neck vent.

Is there anything more that I can do? The valve covers are stock.

If anyone knows of a good solution for check valves / catch cans / oil separators please let me know. I could use links and part numbers if you have them.

    Thanks!!!

I tried lots of different methods to eliminate oil drawn in through the pcv of my 94 Cobra with a 347. In the end, I eliminated the pcv and put 3 breathers on my car. 2 in the valve covers(with baffles) and one in the lower intake where the pcv goes. The only problem with this method that I have is the fumes come up through the back of my Cervini's hood and get drawn into the ventilation system and then into the cabin when stopped.

I was thinking of getting new valve covers for breathers. Thanks for the info. Still may do that.

Thanks for the info. I was looking at their website. The product looks great. Do you think that it would work on my 95 car?

I'm going to call JLT today and see if they make them for the 5.0 cars. I would prefer to run a pcv due to the benefits they provide. If they do, I will let everyone know with a new post on this thread.

JLT said their prefilter is a OEM metal mesh screen that they place inside a custom-built housing that fits into the valve cover. The housing has a 5/8" male fitting and can be adapted to fit other applications using various grommets. I might try it, but I don't have much confidence that it would correct my oil problems through the pcv. I tried many different things including using 2 of the OEM mesh screens inside a oil fill tube that I made.

I ordered one to try it. I will let you know. I may put an oil separator after it, so that I can see how it is working. Anyone know where to get a good oil separator?

I think that Steeda makes the best one since they use a special type of filter that is designed for oil. The home-made ones are designed to trap water for air compressors. If you use synthetic oil, your chances of success go down since synthetic oil molecules are smaller and can get by the mesh screen easier. Good luck and please post up your results.

By the way, you are welcome to try my oil separator for a few weeks since mine is just sitting on my shelf. It is a home-made one I bought off eBay. If the bottle stays empty for a few weeks, chances are you can remove it permanently.

I use the homemade separator from Home Depot, and it works fairly well. I'm running Mobil 1, and I catch a good bit.
