    Non-car people just dont understand

I am siting at work and make a quick call to a shop because I ordered a new idler pulley for the cobra on Monday and it still hasn’t shipped but I was told that I would have it by Friday. So I am on the phone trying to figure out what’s going on and my "buddy" at work comes by and says "Constant flow". This kinda made me mad so I said "Well I don’t have a wife or kids so mine flows in a different direction". (Piss on him)

So what’s the deal! Why would somebody question what I spend my money on? This isn’t the first time but for some reason it rubbed me the wrong way. Let’s just say his wife treats him like crap and spends every cent he makes. I would have put a stop to her crap years ago but he doesn’t and is one miserable SOB some times because of it. I am NOT going to pretend that I dont have a hobbie or a life to make him feel better about himself.

Well I guess I am just depressed because I am back in the "real world" with people that dont care about cars. When is the next big car show?!?

had kind of a similar situation myself last night...

i have been with my gf for over four years now and since day one her and her family know how important cars and motorcycles are to me. well last night at dinner, i say i think i have my stang sold and without hesitation her mom jumps in and says, "well good, now you'll have more money for other things like buying my daughter more things and spending more money on the house". 1st off - everyroom in my house has been redone over the last 3-4 years. 2nd - i have had my eye on an old model a coupe for months and if/when my cars go, it will be hours before its in my garage. 3rd - her daughter is very well taken care of and doesn't want anymore materialistic things. so then i say...well just wait until you see the new house and garage i'm planning on building in a few years. so she proceeds to ask me what and i tell her my plans to build a 8-10 car pole building. she looked at me with disgust and like i was crazy. well lets just say i got pissed... i hate to vent like this, but i was mad. for the most part my girls parents have stayed out of our lives (thank god), but i just have a feeling she is going to cause trouble in the future when i start to get more toys than what i already have...

anyways... i hate to vent on a place like this but it was just good timing with your post.

It's just todays society...people not minding their own business. Same people who talk trash on others and have to put them down, because they are unhappy with what has happend to them in their life. People like that can go pound sand imho...

It's your money, spend it as you see fit!

    Truth. And from both genders.

I gotta say though that my craziest ex girlfriend was the only one that understood about cars. Maybe that's why it worked for longer than it should have, even though her dad was a die hard Chevy guy

My girlfriend is OK with most of the stuff, but there is a point where hobby turns to obsession, so that's the line I try to walk so I can't get in "trouble"

I get a lot of crap at work for spending money on my cars, but then I ask them how much money they have saved in the bank. The answer is usually nothing or that they are in debt. I then respond with "well I have plenty of savings, who should be giving who financial advice now?"

I spend my money on what I want, but I keep it all within reason. Everybody wastes money on something, at least I have something to show for it when it's over.

People are very critical anymore, it's real annoying. It's none of their business what anyone else spends money on. I love cars and always will. If some one is hassling a person about what they like to do etc, well they got to much time to think shit over, because no one's hobbies, lives, etc is perfect in the eyes of someone else.

I dont think you dont understand my point. I dont let them get to me I am just trying to figure out were or why they think that they have the right to say anything. Like others have said. We could waste "more" on beer or drugs and strippers but we dont. We just have a rather expensive hobbie.

My Ex was the best about cars but that was 2 years ago now. She is currently setting up for Ford, GM and all the others at the big car shows in Vegas and other places. Her dad was heavy into car and took me under his wing when we first met. I was her first car guy and he loved that. Sadly he past shortly after we met and I didnt get to spend as much time as I wanted with him. Before I could make it back out my ex girlfriend ended up flipping out because of this and just wasnt the same person after that. She asked me to marry her after we first met so I should have known something was wrong. lol Lets just say it hasn't been as exciting since. lol

    I'm assuming you mean girlfriends/fiances/wives/etc.

Clearly I don't, as I am almost always ****ing around with something on my car or a friend's car or taking pictures or posting on car sites - however that isn't to say that I would prioritize a possession over a person (if all things are good and healthy in the relationship, as mine is). I'll put the cobra on the back burner for my gf not because I have to, but because I want to. If that changes to "because I have to" then its time for a talk to set things straight. That shit doesn't fly, unless you're putting yourself in debt or your spending is out of control. But for lack of attention? they need to get outta here with that bs!

Don't take what I said the wrong way earlier, as my current girlfriend loves the cobra, she just isn't all about the baggage that comes with it (detailing it, forums, cruises, etc.) because its not hers to take care of/show off. The other girl I was talking about was just used to that type of stuff from her dad growing up. Most girls also never really have the gearhead mentality nor do they have those types of tendencies to start modding something that they just bought when its working perfectly fine just to make it "better" or "their own" and I'll never know why

My second ex-wife, yeah second, was actually jealous of my car. She just didn't get it. I kept telling her I could be blowing money in the bars or doing drugs but she didn't want to hear it. She hated my car and wouldn't go to to many shows either, if she would've givin it a chance she might have liked it, but nooooo!!! I got a good woman now. She was with me at Carlisle, and like going to the local shows too.
