    Question Employment Advice...

Alright..As some of you may know, I worked for Century III Dodge..Now that they are closed, we have supposidly become Century III Sales & Service. Now, I was asked by the owner if I would stay, and I said it all depends on what I'm going to be doing and my rate of pay was going to be. That was clear when he asked, and he said Yeah just come in tomorrow and then we'll handle things from there....Well so far, nothing's been said to me, and theres 15 minutes left in my day...My question is, would it be a good idea to collect my paycheck this friday, and just leave, IF he doesn't talk to me about wages, work ect.?..I'm pretty confused, because I don't want to just leave, and be denied unemployment when the time comes..I would love to stay and work, but nothing is being said, its too quiet and no ones telling me anything...

    What do you guys think!?

I would go ask him about it since he said he would talk to you about it. People get busy and forget things. I definitely wouldn't walk out...especially if it all turned out to be that he got busy or forgot.

There are 2 sides to communication. If you're not getting the information you need, schedule some time with him, ask him if he has a minute, etc. Be professional and courteous about it. Just leaving sounds like a very bad idea to me.

Yeah..I suppose..This is the 2nd time he was supposed to "have a talk" with me, and it hasn't happened yet..And there's no way in hell I'll do what I think I'm going to do for what I make now, just can't do it..Operate a service department, and parts..I'll be working with one other guy in Service, and I'll be the only one around there with parts experience...I'd rather collect and go back to school then get paid shit for having so much responsibility and b/s to deal with..I just hate that dude so bad, hes such an inconsiderate prick.

I wouldnt quit unless you had a job lined up. Not like there is alot of jobs out there. Keep that umemployment for when you need it. I would just keep after him every day. He may be waiting on some kind of word from higher up on wages and so fourth. no reason to sit at home and collect when you have a job. Those who wana work would jump at it. Good luck though, hope it all works out.

Matt - My advice to you would be stay for now but get ahead of the curve and find another stable dealership to work for, that's if you want to stay in the industry? All these Chrysler and GM dealers that are getting their franchises pulled are going to reopen as a used car & independent service facility. How many of them do think will be around in 12-24 months? IMO not many ... which will make the dealership job market very competitive!

The company i work for is always hiring. I dont know what your wages are or what your looking to get, but Lockheed Martin is a great company and you would not have any worries of losing your job what so ever. We have so many contracts and delieveries to so many different companies that last 20+ yrs and we are still going to be hiring 100 people this year. Just for thought if nothing comes up.

Yeah..I understand all that, I just will refuse to do way more work for a half a dollar or some shit, hes cheap like that..So if he offers me some bullshit, and I tell him Thanks but I can't do it..and he let's me leave, can I still collect? I should have made it a little bit more clear...

And I wouldn't mind collecting, and going back to school..I need to get into something different.

Alot of people dont really know the benefits and whats all out there for having an A&P license. Everyone i talk to not to sure about school i tell them about what i do. Alot of people think my industry is not strong anymore since 9/11 but infact its a great industry to get into. And since you already have car mechanic experience alot of the schooling will be a breeze and you also get a degree along with your license.

If you get fired you can collect. If you quit you can not collect. Keep the job until you find something else. Even if its bullsh*t work your still working and paying your bills. You don't want to be unemployed the way the country is right now.

I wouldnt do that cause if he feels pressured(when he is already pressured enough) he will just say fine and let you be on your way and then you def will be out of a job and unemployed.. Thats just my opinion
