HAHAHAHAH That was when it was first coming out. The factory was confused. Ford had a similar issue with the trucks. Some were EFI and others were carbed.

There are more but that's all that was logged!!!
I have a 90 Iroc 305 5 speed car. The reason they never made the 350 5 speed is because the Iroc racing rules stated that the engine had to be under 350 and that GM had to produce and sell some many cars before they could race. My car had the rare G92 car and had the same cam as the 350 cars. It was a fast car for its time. I pulled that out and was working on putting a 382 LS6 with a 6 speed in it.
90 was a half year run for the Iroc and was the only Iroc badged camaro with the 91-92 style interior.
If the car they found was a 1LE package car it would be worth a mint.

They Did Make Iroc's With Carbs,most Were In 85 & 87,trust Me I Know!
I know these cars pretty well. There was no 5.7 TPI/T5 option because the torque rating on the T5 wasn't adequate. The TPI 5.7 was rated at 345 lbs. of torque.
I've been around a lot of these cars and have never seen a T5 5.7 TPI car.
A lot of guys thought they had a 5.7 because in TPI form it looked exactly like the 305. It used the same intake runners/base manifold, etc.
If anyone has a documented 5.7 TPI/T5 car, I'd be mighty interested in seeing it.
Non WC GM T5's were rated at 265 ft. lb's. Gm went to the WC T5 in 1988 which had a 300 ft. lb. rating.
The torque rating for the TPI 305 was 285 ft.lb./300 ft.lb's depending on year.
The highest rated factory T5 came in the 93 Cobra with a 310 ft. lb. rating. You could get a T5Z rated at 330 Ft. Lb's. from Ford Racing, but they were never available as a factory option in any car.
So, you can see why this was never an option when you look at the Tq. ratings of the T5 and the Tq. rating of the 5.7 TPI engine.

Proof of a Iroc 5.7 5speed

I'm not claiming to be a know it all, but like I said, I've never seen one.
If, for the sake of argument there is such a car, what transmission did GM put in it ?
There's no way they'd put a T5 rated at 300ft. lb's. into a car making 345 lb's. of torque. They'd end up being responsible for every tranny failure whether it was the owners fault or not.
on wikipedia, it says exactly that; no 350 5-speed cars because of the torque. Never knew that/ thought it was just no 350 5-speed w/ t-tops.

Like I said, I know these cars pretty well because I had one. When I have a car I usually find out everything I possibly can about them.
I used to know every option code for them too.
I don't know if that's something to brag about though, LOL.
If you want to know about these car just ask. These were my cars before I jumped ship to the Cobra. Irocs did come with TBI or TPI on the 305 side and all 350 were TPI only. All 350 had automitics and the rare 5 speeds were all 305. I believe some odd years had TBI 305 5 speed cars. My buddy had one and it was a bit of a freak because I didnt think they were made until I saw his.
It doesnt mater about the 350 or 305 TPI 5 speed cars because the HP was with in 15HP or something like that and they had better gears to make up that short coming if you can call it that. The G92 package was more or less the 1LE with power windows, A/C and a radio. I think the 1LE also had an aluminum spare tire rim.
Do you guys have any idea how many times I have had the 5 speed agrument? lol I feel like I am back in school!!

Whats the ezway to tell a true IROC from a z28?

The vast majority of these cars were 305's. Other than the V6's of course. The first few years of the 3rd Gen. you could even get a 4 banger.
I'm wondering when the mags used to do all the Mustang/Camaro tests if they ever ran the 5.7 TPI against the 5.0 Mustang ?
Most of the ones I remember were 5sp Mustangs against 5sp. Camaros which meant all the Camaros were 305's.
I actually traded my Z28 to get my first and only 5.0 Mustang. The Mustang was an untouched AOD LX. Still had 4 cats, the air intake silencer, everything stock. All I had on the Camaro was a catback with factory cats and a fan switch to make the fan come on sooner since they were programmed from the factory to come on at 226*. As the car would heat up in traffic, the computer would automatically pull out timing. Pretty much ran like crap when they got hot. There's a switch in the side of the block (fan switch) you could change to make the fans come on at 192* and go off at 180*. That simple switch really helped the car.
Anyway, I was disappointed in the LX's stock performance compared to the Z28. The Z28 would run out of steam at about 4800-5000 rpm, but it had tons of bottom end torque. It's handling was also light years ahead of the Fox.
The Z28 was no where near as reliable as my Fox has been. 3 EGR valves, and they are a pain to change since they sit under the intake plenum on TPI cars. They had Torx bolts which were a total pain in the arse. It also had a fuel vapor smell that I could never get rid of. I changed the pump, tank. lines, and charcoal canister but never solved it. Thinking back it may have been because the muffler (they only had one) sat right under the fuel tank.
Also left me stranded 4 or 5 times due to starter heatsoak. Still had the factory exhaust manifolds but it did it anyway. I finally wised up and bought some heat wrap and put it around the starter. Really used to piss me off.
I traded for the Fox because I thought the Fox had more potential than the Z28 and a much larger aftermarket. Besides that, I always admired them from afar and told myself I'd own one some day.
As far as doing work on either car, the Fox wins by a landslide. The Camaro had a couple plugs that were very hard to get to. A plug change took me almost an hour. In my Fox I can do it in less than half that time. If I'm hurrying and have everything ready,I can do it in 10 - 15 minutes.
Dropping the gas tank required also dropping the rearend. On some cars you could get away with just undoing one side, but tank removal is nowhere near as easy as on a Fox.
My Fox as it sits now would run circles around the Camaro. There's not a whole lot left on it that's stock.
I liked the Camaro, but it never won me over like the Fox did. I just really love these cars.
Its amazing how much info comes out about a Chebby on a FORD forum!
