    Need Some Help With Datalogging

Need to do some datalogging on my 02gt. Keep in mind when it comes to computers my knowledge pretty much consist of searching around the forums and buying/selling on ebay.:) I have an sct x3 tuner. I have gotten as far as downloading the sct livelink onto a laptop. I have the x3 plugged into the car and the laptop hooked to the x3. Bring up the livelink software on the laptop and try to get ecm id. At this point it keeps telling me to check my connections that it cannot communicate(i forgot the exact wording of the message). At first i did not have the key on, took care of that. It tells me to check my connection to the car, but i have already played with the datalogging in the x3 itself and it's picking up data. Am i missing something as far as configuring the x3 to the laptop so that it recognizes it? or is it something else? I did get as far in the laptop software as going thru the list and setting up the items i want to datalog.

    Thanks for the help

If you were able to build a configuration then it should be reading your processor. Sounds silly but did you hit the start button? If you actually didn't get as far as you think, you must use a newer cable, especially with an x3. I have recently had problems with a connection cable that I used for years (x3 to laptop), swapped it out for a newer one and all was well.

I got all the way to the point that i had the screen displaying that would show a graph and had the gauges across the top. Also showed the list of the things i wanted to log. At that point i did hit the start button.:) The cable i'm using to connect the laptop was an older cable i had laying around so i will give a new cable a try.

    Thanks for the input Mike.

So, when you hit the green start button, did the logging time stamp start?

OK, tried the correct cable that came with the x3. No luck. I wish i wasn't so lost when it comes to this computer stuff and loading new things. I'm assuming i need to download something else. When i hook up the x3 i get the message that i new device has been hooked up and that I need to load the driver(or something along those lines). I click to do that but it says something about not be able to find something or the other. I tried for the heck of it to go into the sct software, when i try to get the ecu code it just comes up telling me that it couldn't initialize to check my connection. I would have to assume this because the driver is not loaded for the handheld.

Unfortunately there have been a lot of issues with the x3's and some of the new software updates. The only issue I have personally had with with an older cable, bought a new one and all was well. Make sure you have the latest version of livelink and the x3lwupdater, you may need to manually load the driver...

I've been looking around on sct's website but not sure exactly what it is i need to download. Everything i'm looking at seems to be updates. I emailed sct's tech support to see if they can also lead me to what i need.
