Fords at the Summit and the Ring of Fire

    July 2, 2009
The Inaugural Fords at the Summit presented by UPR and Custom Wire Sets is only a few weeks away, July 24-26, and the lineup of exciting features is unparalleled. One of the most outstanding features is the surprising cost of this packed event. Where else in the country can you go to see drag racing, show cars and trucks, a swap meet, and manufacturers midway for only $8.00 per day? In addition, kids 12 years and under are free, and there is free spectator parking as well. It’s exactly the kind of event that should make you want to come out and enjoy even if you’re not a Blue Oval fan!

This event will feature the “Ring of Fire”, which is a judged competition for both cars and trucks. The competition will recognize restored vehicles as well as modified and custom. Scoring will be based on level of craftsmanship and attention to detail. Vehicles on the show field will be parked in class; the judging team will review the show field and select vehicles for the Ring of Fire Competition. Once selected the vehicle will move into the competition area and judging for top honors will begin. Each vehicle selected to move into the Ring of Fire will receive a recognition award. After judging is completed top award winners will be determined and the very highest scoring vehicle will receive recognition in Legendary Ford Magazine.
Gates will open daily 8:00 am Friday, and there will be activity all day, including the swap meet, car corral, show vehicle registration, and drag racer registration. Friday evening, racers can enter the shoot out, as long as they’re registered in main event. Saturday will feature show vehicle registration and Ring of Fire Competition. Drag racing will be ongoing all day, as the action at the swap meet, car corral, and manufacturers midway continue. Sunday, we’ll have the show vehicle awards presentation and the drag racing main event.
Summit Motorsports Park is one of the finest drag racing facilities in the country, and the area offers great nearby attractions, such as Lake Erie, and Cedar Point. Take a ferryboat ride to the islands where there is plenty for the whole family to see and do. Book a few extra days and create a family vacation. For this event, the Great Wolf Lodge is offering true family value for Fords at the Summit participants. Great Wolf Lodge has extended their special Fords at the Summit $149 per night rate, but don’t delay, because July 7th is the cutoff date. Call 866-965-9653, and use code0907FORD to get the special rate.

Make plans now to attend this spectacular inaugural event. You know that every yearly event that Summit Motorsports Park puts their stamp of approval on turns out to be great, so don’t miss the opportunity to be a part of the first “Fords at the Summit!” For questions concerning the event, call the Summit Motorsports Park offices at 419-668-5555. See you at Fords at the Summit!

Thanks for posting this Mark, this is a replacement for the failed FFW series sponsored by Summit and UPR.
Hopefully we can get a group of guys from around here to go to this race.
My brothers, friends from Ohio and I will all be going and racing.
We will be tent camping Fri/Sat also, same as we always did for FFW.
Lots of space and we get the same nice location with extra room so anyone interested let me know and we can save a spot. They also have nice shower facilities at the track.
I emailed the track about possibly doing a True Street event like they did for FFW and Mr. Bader the track owner responded saying he would like to and is waiting to see how this first year event goes.
Norwalk is by far the nicest track around so if you've never been, this hopefully will be a good event.

I thought we had a few racers on here.
Best track in reasonable driving distance.

I've been off and on about this one. If the Baders do it, well it's done right. None the less, it's a pretty good haul for me for a bracket race. I've been waiting to see how many 2.3 guys are planning to go, right now it only looks like 2 or 3. Last year we had planned to have our 2.3 gathering at this FFW race as most guys had it with Columbus (NMRA). Most of the fast guys wont come to bracket race (open comp / true street guys). Still undecided myself although I would love to see your stuff run ;)

I hear ya Bob, I have some of the same thoughts on how many will show up for just brackets.
Like I mentioned, Mr. Bader responded to my email and wants to do more drag action and a true street event for following years and wants to see how this first one goes.
I told him that if they market and make the date right I'd think alot of those FFW guys that are reasonably local would still come.
Its only about 3hrs from Pittsburgh, takes me 2:15 from Beaver and the track is definitely worth the drive.
Like I mentioned we camp there and party all weekend, its a great time.
Hope you can make it---we can help each other dial in the new toy (AMS) :)

I've haven't missed the Norwalk FFW event in years, but this year will be a first. Work, family, etc are all severly limiting my time lately and I can't make it this year. We always go up to Cedar Point on Friday and then the races on Saturday and then come home. It was one of my favorite weekends of the entire summer.

It'll have a passenger seat by then....I think Summit charges $1 for a passenger to make a ride-along pass right? :)

I think they will pull a nice car count like anything they do there. Look at the NMRA stuff how many cars come and end up in the brackets not having a clue what they are doing. A couple years ago we watched car after car break out, only to buy back and break out again :D They where hving fun anyway ;)

    J,

I'm planning to head out early Saturday morning. Are you still going to T-n-T on Friday?

As usual when I go to Norwalk, it rained on the drive out. It rained again in the afternoon but, to my relief they waited it out both times & hit the track with the jet-dryer. This is the nicest drapstrip I have been to. I like it better than Joliet(Rt. 66). They spend some serious money on concrete, blacktop & facilities(restrooms & concessions).

I met J (biminiLX) and his brothers Josh & John there. Josh has a sweet 10 second superchared 4.6L '86 hatch that runs in the 10's. I also saw Bob, Larrie & the wives there several times.

J accomplished his first goal on the third run, a 9 second pass on DR's. He ran a 9.84 @ 149 mph with a 1.58 60' time. This was on 15-15.5# of boost hrough the traps. So, J had better talk to Dave at Team Z about mounting a chute & get the safety gear for a competition license! There's much more left in the car...

They also had a gathering of Fairlane Thunderbolts. These are some cool old cars.

How about a 8 second '65 Mustang coupe?

Here's the GT-557 featured in the new MM&FF
