    Death of a turbo diesel

So we have this '99 Isuzu box truck with 112,000miles. Has a 4cyl turbo diesel. Well friday guy in warehouse see's it is running hot again. Which I hear it had done a few days earlier Friday after seeing alot of white smoke blowing out exhaust he stops and gets coolant and refills entire cooling system

Coming back on turnpike from his deliveries it begins to lose power around Harmer before it stops running. He calls and says it won't turn over. We get local shop to run out and tow it back to see what can be fixed. Well shop calls this morning and first thing he says "it's been killed good"

I laugh and ask what is wrong. He says when he got to it all the oil had drained onto the ground running to shoulder and off. Once back at shop he says it smelled like inside of engine was on fire. Driver must have really over heated the thing.

From my take on it is.

    1. Head gasket blew and was driven to point that head warped.
    2. Added coolant which may have been the complete down hill ride.
    3. Fresh coolant now has a wonderful place to go. Straight into cylinder.
    4. Said cylinder(or more) is flooded with coolant as piston is on compression stroke.
    5. The wonderful world of high compression diesel and being hydrolocked
    6. SPLITTING the block open empting it of oil
    7. Having to tell President of company of this nice costly issue.
    8. Having to find a new truck that not a fn Isuzu

It is a small one and not the best out there for sure. We deal with these things at work and are phasing them out for being such a shitty truck. Some people like them. Sheets just bought a bunch of international trucks pretty much the same style then international shuts down production of them lol. They carry around spare parts like batteries, alt., belts, and starters.

Funny thing I was looking at the Ford L45/International CF500 which is same truck. Untill I call Northland Ford and they say Ford stopped selling them in 2008 but they can still be found new. Then I call Hunter Truck in Butler and guy tells me same thing International stopped making them. Course both Ford and International still have them on their websites

So far the trucks making the cut is a Sprinter 3500 with 14' box $40k new in Columbus, OH. I test drove a long wheelbase van with a 1600lb skid of truck brake drums loaded on tall end and never even knew it was there when trying to merge onto 79. That lil Mercedes diesel runs very good. The other looks like it may be a UD with a Nissan diesel which I know nothing about really.

Salesman from Allegheny Ford called yesterday and trying to see what I need. I think he got a hint I really hate the Isuzu's which is 90% of trucks they sell. I asked about a Ford E450 cutaway with a diesel and got the run around.

We deal with alot of sprinter vans as well. They do pretty good but when they break its a major pain in the ass. Other then that they run pretty well and fairly low mait.
