    1979 four speed transmission

    What 4 speed stick did ford use in the '79 muatangs?

    I'm trying to find a wiring diagram for a friend.

    Pretty sure it was the SROD? Someone else should confirm before you take that as gospel though.

    They could have used one of two different transmissions. If it's an overdrive, it's a SROD (Single Rail Over Drive). They were used with V-8s and I-6s. If it's a 4 cyl, it could have the "RAN Type", which has a 1:1 fourth. You can tell visually by looking at the shifter location. The SROD has the shifter turret attached to the side of the tail housing with bolts, at the back end of a short or long tube, depending on if the shifter was located in the forward or rearward position. The "RAN" has the shifter turret cast into the tail housing, and it's centered above the tail shaft, not off to the left.

    I do believe it is a SROD, it's a 304 V-8 from the factory.
