Well, sort of :D
Andy's TA broke a rear (black), My Capri borke a rear (Black), That GTO was black, but I thought he told me he broke part of the driveshaft?? A slick car broke an axle too (GM rear, NO C-Clip elininators), but it was blue. Great catch by the tech guys there.
did you get your up and running yet bob?

Nah, still putzing around getting it done. I hit a stupid decission point that held me up.
The rear itself broke the side gears like we figured. No big deal I geuss.
So I'm throwing this 3.55 rear under it so I can drive it again and make Columbus NMRA. This is also a great data point for me on gearing ;) It's just a stock 87/88 TC rear, so it's 28 spline. I Had planned to just throw my axles (good 28 spline) in it, and finish the year with plans to build a real solid rear over the winter (welded, 31 spline, good carrier, etc).
As part of the tear down, the PS axle came out with the splines looking a little tweeked, but probably servicable. I had to use a 10# sledge to get the drivers side in enough to get the C Clip out, then beat the snot out of the axle to get it out. The splines on that side are wrecked pretty good.
So I needed to decide if it was worth buying another set of 28 spline axles to "just put it together" or go ahead and upgrade now. I didnt do anything before the weekend, so the car will be ready waiting for axles next week ;)

Did it take out the housing too? I exploded an Eaton posi at the end of 04 at PRP, punched 2 holes in the housing...

I thought about that, or just taking a file to them to make the straight It is just a 4 banger after all ;)
Nah, didnt leak a drop. It broke right at the hit and I let off as soon as it squirmed. This housing has seen it's share of abuse for sure.
I already swapped to a different assembled 3.55 rear (housing and all). I'm going to order new axles and "hopefully" run out the year with the 3.55 / 28 spline set up. I need to see what these gears do to the combo then will decide what I'm going to put together for next year as far as gears and such.
Thats great news then, I lost everything when the posi exploded!!!Nah, didnt leak a drop. It broke right at the hit and I let off as soon as it squirmed. This housing has seen it's share of abuse for sure.

You are correct, but missing the problem... If they stay in the rear, they would have likely made it through the year without breaking. The problem is, when they twist like that at the splines, you can't push them in enough to get the c clips out. I really don't think I could get that one axle back in if I wanted too. I just got the c-clip to clear the spring then beat it out.
New axles should be here tomorrow.
You clearly leave at idle :D
