    little fun with the G-Tech

A friend returned my G-Tech accelerometer a while back and I realized I hadn't played with it since before I bought the LX. So I tossed it into the car this morning thinking maybe I'd have some time on the way home from work today...

Anyway, I found a nice flat "loop" between nearby exits and wound her up. The car is a relatively stock 1990 LX 5.0 with 4.10 gears and an E-cam. Here's what she ran:

    0-60 6.2 seconds

    1/4 mile 14.4 sec @ 103

The car was nearly impossible to hook up, even with the 315's on the back. I'm sure my 60 foot time would have been horrendous. I tried launching at 1000 and 1500 rpms and the times didn't change much. Even so, I'm pretty happy that it hit 103mph at the traps. I guess that's the 4.10's doing their thing. I granny shifted, since the car is my daily driver and I can't afford to grind up the T5, & the stock shifter isn't known for its crisp shifts.

Anyway, tomorrow I'm swapping the 4.10's for 3.55's. The 4.10's whine a bit and make the car a bit noisy on the highway with the Flowmasters and Prochamber. I'll put up the new numbers when I get a chance to play again...

Thanks Shawn - with any traction and more aggressive shifting I'm thinking I could get close to that. I just didn't want to hurt anything while I was playing around.

Did you ever get another toy?

Remember that trap speed on a Gtech is true speed at the end of a 1/4 mile where as at thr real track the trap speed is the average speed over the last 66'. A Gtech will always show a higher trap speed than you will see at the track. Having said that... its still impressive none-the-less! :)

    Thanks guys!

The 3.55's went in today at a buddies place, along with new Cobra clutches in the differential ( dang they're pricey ), and new pinion bearings. But the driveability is great now. The nearly constant gear whine is gone, first gear is much more useable, and highway cruising is way more enjoyable with the rpms down around 2k-2500rpm. Hopefully tomorrow I'll have a chance to play with the G-Tech a little more and get some comparative numbers.
