    Time for a new engine

Does anyone know of a good shop to have the heads rebuilt? I do NOT want a valve job or porting. I just want the old stock valves/springs replaced.

My motor is hurtin' and rather than put money into a rebuild, I'm just using a friends rebuilt short block and his B cam and planning on just throwing on refreshed stock heads.

My current heads are pissing oil from the valves on the #1 cylinder and I'm pretty sure I have piston ring blow by elsewhere.

Tony, it cost almost as much to have the heads redone to buy a new set of heads... believe me, you will have 6-800 n those old iron heads.. most machind shops want to redo everything, not just this or that..

    Heads

    Hey man,

I have a set of stock heads that were port matched off my 93 LX, they are in great shape ,$100.00 cash takes them.

    Thanks

The thing is I don't want to buy aftermarket heads until I'm ready to actually build a motor worthy. I have no intentions of keeping this combo for anything more than a relatively cheap fix. Unless theres some universal miracle head that will work on this stock motor as well as a blown 347... I'm not going that route.

gmslayer I'll keep that in mind. intake and exhaust port matched? are the valves reliable?

What are they port matched for? I'm putting 1 3/4 BBK longtubes on.

If that is all you want there is no reason you couldn't do that yourself. All you would need is a spring compressor, a magnet to help get the locks out, and maybe some lapping compound in addition to the actual replacement parts.

Edit- and I wouldn't put 1-3/4" longtubes on a stock head if it was my car. they will hurt more than they will help.

intake matched only for a stock 5.0 intake. The heads were gone through at some point (before I owned the car) and were reliable.

    Thanks.

Most of the smaller aftermarket heads will work fine on a stock engine and hold there own on a blown 347.
I'd suggest a TFS TW head to do both---will work with stock pistons and pick up nice gains on a stock engine and with mild porting (or not even) make good power on a blown 347.
I would never ever put money in a stock head.

Let's say I swing for some TF heads and a matching cam. For a short while would it hurt to run the stock intake and fuel system? I realize it wouldn't be at max potential.

You're not going to hurt a thing, except performance. I've run the TW heads for years. Upgrade the rest of the parts when you can afford it.

What's a good size to go for? 180? 190? 200+? I'm not too familiar with engines and how to properly build them yet. Any explanation would be great. I realize I'll need a custom ground cam eventually, so up until the point of a blower and stroker, what cam would be a good part on a stock displacement set-up.

Who are good TF dealers? Summit?

I think just the base TFS TW head is your best bet on a stock shortblock.
I also think you'd gain more from replacing the stock intake instead of the stock cam and its less involved that way.
For the cheapest route, basic TW head and something like a Cobra or Explorer intake would be good.
Do you have the stock headers, TB, mass-air, etc.? What all is done to the car?

My car has pulleys and had shorty headers, but 1 3/4" bbk LT's and an X-pipe are going in. Everything else is stock. Well the EGR is gone.

I want heads I can run when I stroke and blow it, even if not on the same block. If that is not possible then I will just get some decent TW heads for now and sell them later.

The reason I want a cam in addition to heads is because its easier to swap the cam now when I have a short block sittin on a motor stand.

I plan on changing the parts to compliment these heads/cam (the intake, maf, tb, fuel, ign, etc.) but that will be later, after the motor is running again. That's why I want heads that will work on a stockish set up.

What if I was to get TF TW 205 Cnc heads? I know they aren't the cheapest. Will they cause ptv clearance issues?

What do you think of these?

    http://www.trickflow.com/egnsearch.a...6&autoview=sku

    And maybe

    http://www.compperformancegroupstore...ode=F50CEFIMAG

Or something of that nature. What cams would you recommend with just the 170's? The TF stage 2? Will I have ptv issues with that? How's the idle. I want driveability.
