    Penndot road maintenance

Well I thought I hated Penndot before but today sealed the deal. They have been oil and chipping all the back roads around my area and managed to do it at a time when I was having work done to my Cobra so I cant get it back to its resting spot. Meaning its currently outside with a cover on it. (I know I need my own garage) So I have been using the truck to drive to work. I was driving slow this moring with NO one infront of me then i see this car going over the speed limit coming towards me. As soon as it past I hear WACK and duck for cover. When I put my head up I see a nice 1 inch mark in my windshield that looks like it took a bb gun blast. I just cant F'n win with cars this month. The best part is that I get it inspected tomorrow.

Now my question is...Why the hell dont they properly fix the roads in PA! All they do is make the body shops a ton of money and the other half of the people just dont give a crap about there vehicals. I am a bit tick and would like to find a number to call and voice my anger. Oh that and progressive insurance doesn't cover glass and the winshield was replaced last year. AAAAAAhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

    Ok done venting. lol

    1-800-FIX-ROAD

On a different note they did my road as well but it had a better ending. My driveway has been cracking along the road and finally started to chunk off. I got a price to repair it and went about making the arrangements. The day before they were to fix it Pen-DOT went down the road and patched the bad spots in preparation for the tar and chips. I happened to be off on stay-cation and saw them coming up the road. I watched as they repaired the end of the driveway without even asking. After they finished, good job by the way, the foreman told me they are not supposed to do that but they are not getting paid anyways so F-em, he said. (The Pa budget had not been passed so..) After that he recommended to use flexible sealer along the repair to keep the water out. Nice guys and a good experience for once.

    Mark,
I just got off the phone with them when you posted the number. The rep I need to speak with is out to lunch but she will be giving me a call. The girl I spoke to was explaining that they have to leave the rocks for a day and bla bla bla. I was nice about it and I understand but it still damaged my property so I dont think I am in the wrong.

    Thanks for the info guy!!

There is an acute area directly infront of your line of vision. Its 8.5X5.5. That area and have nothing. Then there is the "critical"area. Thatrs the wiper sweep. If the crack is not in that area, you will be ok. In other words, get shorter wipers. Its the inspectors final decision weather it passes or not. Some are dicks and others really dont care unless its a complete shot that obstructs your vision.

Three days last week, I saw three different cars with flats on route 30 west, kind of in front of Barns & noble / boulevard. Not sure if they allcame out of that Giant Eagle plaza, or down 30, but two of the three had broken beads they where that bad. Cars where all pulled off on the left shoulder there so they had to happen fast. Something was going on in that area last week.

    That sucks dude.

While on this topic though, one of biggest problems with Penn Dot is their use of the road signs that say "bump." Really, are you freaking kidding me? They are that freaking lazy and cheap to fix the problem that they just put a sign up saying "hey, we know this road if messed up but we're letting you know with this sign to cover our own ass." That's freaking lame!

Another thing I hate is when they have flaggers directing traffic at intersections without turning the traffic light into a flashing red or yellow signal and they leave it functioning as a normal traffic light. I always thought that was illegal to do but I see more and more of them doing it. i watched my line have two green lights before the flagger gave us the "slow" sign to proceed... and he did so when the light was red. WTF? One of these days I'm likely to run the flagger if the light is green, if they have a problem with it **** 'em, they should have disabled the traffic signal as that takes precedence IMO.

Eh, its something I had gotten used to over the years... Out where I grew up, they Tar&Chip roads every other year.... I just got used to it taking 35 mins to get somewhere that it usually only took 10-15...

They don't care one bit about your cars - its cheap maintenance, and it works pretty well on roads that don't see heavy truck traffic... unfortunately, for us that like to take care of our vehicles, its a $hitty situation.... the worse is definitely what you mentioned... when some other a$$hole comes flying down the road and blows chips all over your vehicle...

I particularly hate it on roads that I ride my bike on... not only will it chip up the bike, but for obvious reasons, the bike can't be turned quite the same.

my dad just totaled his truck due to same reason. the hill turned into an ice skating rink after the rain. he was lucky though he did do a lot of damage to his truck and didn't get hurt.

I am not sure if I hate penndot or the stupid people that drive 50+ on these roads. I am sure if the person cared about their vehical they would have been going slower like I was and this may have prevented the issue.

I received a phone call and filed a claim for the damage. I was told that it takes 2 to 3 weeks for the main office to decide if they will cover it or not so I will just hold tight on the repair. The kicker is that the truck gets inspected tomorrow so I hope that the windshield damage doesnt cause an issue.

sorry to hear that. This area is the same way right now. It was suppose to be done idk, roughly 2 weeks ago. I have to drive my car through this shit everyday. I figured they'll get it done in a month or so.
