Patrick plans NHRA Pro Stock return in 2010 with 2010 Mustang
    Monday, July 27, 2009

Robert Patrick plans to return to NHRA Pro Stock in 2010 with a Jerry Bickel-built '10 Mustang and an engine program headed up by former championship-winning NHRA Pro Stock engine builder Bob Ingles. Next season will mark the return to the NHRA Full Throttle Series of the former mountain-motor Pro Stock champion after a seven-year absence
“We have contemplated a return to NHRA competition for some time, but returning would have meant turning our backs on Ford to have a chance to be competitive,” Patrick said. “We just didn’t have enough Ford participation in the class. But now that Ford is showing an interest and developing some new parts and pieces, we are ready to have at it.”
Patrick, of Fredericksburg, Va., has planned a 12-race schedule for 2010, mostly of events east of the Mississippi River. His Mustang will carry major sponsorship from his family’s Purvis Ford, Lincoln-Mercury dealership and additional support from their Easy Care franchise.
“That works the best for us for now,” Patrick said. “Don’t get me wrong, I’d like to come out of the gate and run 24 races, but until we have proven that we can be competitive, we are just going to run the races that make the best sense businesswise.”

Brian Wolfe, director of Ford Racing Technology, welcomes the Patrick family to the growing list of Pro Stock teams racing a Ford in 2010.
"I've been speaking with Robert and Eli Patrick for some time about our plans for Pro Stock, and we're pleased they think a lot of the work we've been doing with our new heads, blocks, and the Mustang body to make them competitive,” said Wolfe. “To have loyal Ford teams like the Patricks want to come back to NHRA Pro Stock means a lot to us. We are so happy with their vote of confidence in Ford and NHRA."
Patrick’s team has already begun construction of a '10 Mustang, and as soon as the car is complete, Patrick is planning a relentless testing regimen.
“We are going to work hard to iron out the wrinkles and prepare a competitive car to run,” Patrick said. “Some things never change when it comes to NHRA Pro Stock. One of those things is that the class is competitive, and you had better bring your best to the race or you will go home disappointed. We intend to bring our best.”
