Need answer ASAP, do axle bearings need packed with grease?

I'm in the middle of installing new axle bearings and seals on my cobra and I don't know if I should pack the bearings with grease or if they are only to be lubricated via the rear end fluid. If anyone can answer this ASAP I'd appreciate it. I've been searching the net and haven't found and answer yet. My bearings do not appear to have any sort of grease in them.

Paul it says how to do the install here. Looks like no grease is necessary.

Thanks Mark, I never used the google books search option before. I'll have to remember that. I looked up another link there and it too says to just put rear end fluid on it so that is what I'm going to do... I just hope I have a socket here big enough to use to knock the new bearings and seals in.

Sounds like i'm late, but no grease, they are lubed by the rear end fluid. That is why C-clip eliminators leak ;)

I just installed a set of bearings / seals in mine tonight. Just waiting for the new axles to come.

Thanks for the reassurance Bob! I got the bearings and seals in, and managed to get the S spring, spider gears, and clutch packs out. My carbon fiber clutch pack should arrive tomorrow along with the ABS sensors that had to be broken in order to be removed. That sucked as they are $140 to replace. :( My new panhard bar should be here in a few days as well and then I'll be road worthy again! :)

Not if a modified seal is installed into axle tube. http://www.modularrevolutiontech.com/C_clip.htm

    You got me ;)

I was in general trying to "prove" there was gear lube out there and no need for grease. Not all C Clip eliminators leak (until you drive them :D). That is a nifty little fix for the issue. Kind of a home brew version of this ...

Ok guys, I'm having some trouble. I can not get the damn S spring in. I tried collapsing it on one side with vice grips and then a C clamp but its not even close to going in. Any tips/advise? I need to get this together ASAP. Thanks in advance!

Paul did you try to pull the axles out and/or turn them a little on each end while inserting it? You are trying to fit it thru the service opening correct?

Paul - some magical combination of vice grips, screw drivers, hammers, and cussing. I have made 4 or 5 attempts and had it fly out, bite my fingers, then magincally slide in without really changing anything. I geuss I am no help other than it needs patience :D

One more thought Paul - you mentioned a t'lok kit earlier. Have you had it together, axles in and cross in installed before trying to get the spring in?? If you have the side gears shimmed too tight, it won;t go together at the next step anyway, and would make the spring even tougher.

I would hate to see you get it in there only to have to pull it out to change shims (BTDT)
