Is there a preferred mass air meter for tuning ?

This is for any of the local Mustang tuning shops.
Do you prefer a particular mass air meter when you tune a car ?

I'm going to upgrade to 42# injectors and have been stuck on what meter to go with. The 3 I've considered are ProM, PMAS, and a Lightning meter.

This will be for a '91 LX with iron GT40 heads and intake and an A trim Vortech that I'd like to pulley for 6-7# of boost.

the lightning and the sct meters seem way easier to tune in.. Don Lasota always recommends those 2..

Not C&L, I learned that when I had my car tuned. Lasota said the C&L's are pretty much no good for tuning.

SCT meter.

If your combo will support a cobra/lightning meter, those work very well. If either of those don't have the range to support your combo, we usually use an SCT meter.

we personally would probably go with a SCT meter for the simple fact that it has better resolution and will all offer plenty of room to grow in the future. Don't think I know a single sole that has ever left their mustang alone, we always seem to be constantly searching for more power or "I wanna go faster". If you have to buy one now, why not buy one that you are not gonna out grow in a year or so!

I'm suprised that more tuners are not recomending conversion to the 05+ slot sensors. If you get close to pegging, just go in to a bigger pipe, and it's REALLY solid for me in blow through mode.

They do give you a curve to start based on pipe size, but it does need the transfer tuned. Maybe that is what scares everyone away ??

You are correct in 05+ slot sensors! The slot sensor is another way to go, but for most cases, the sct will take of the majority of the cars we see. I do however have a few cars out their that are looking to step up to a slot style meter due to the pegging issue from higher boost/horsepower levels.
