    Hit and Run

A few of you have met my roommate (also named Dan), he drives a blue 99 SS and also has an 06 Repsol CBR1000. Well yesterday he was riding in Monroeville, sitting in a turning lane, when a guy in a Chevy Blazer Ran him over. He was drug in front of the truck for over 75 yards with his right leg pinned underneath his bike. The truck stopped and the driver saw what he did, then he ran. One of Dan's friends chased the guy down (did he really think he could outrun bikes?) and stopped him until the police came and arrested him. Dan spent the night in the hospital, and somehow has no broken bones. The skin on his right knee cap is ground to the bone, and has been stitched apparently. His bike is completely totalled. Luckily he always wore complete riding gear (Icon pants, jacket, gloves, boots, and a good helmet), if not, he would be in FAR worse shape right now. At this point, he's hoping the guy has insurance, otherwise he is going to have to sue for medical bills, his bike, and time off work.

Just wanted some of the bike guys on here to see this and remember how many idiots are out there with you while you're riding. I was dead set on getting a Gixxer 750 next summer, but this hit close to home so I'm cancelling those plans.

Wow! Its sad to hear that even after this guy saw what he did that he tried to run. Talk about a heartless basterd! I wish your roommate well and thank god he was smart enough to wear full riding gear. I see young kids on street bikes in tee shirts and short all the time and honestly it doesnt make sence. You can be a pro rider and still have some idiot run you down.

So many idiots out there - I say it every day - the gene pool can't get much more shallow than it is today...

That's why I keep a steel cage around me now. I was never comfortable on my 600RR and if you're not comfortable then it's not fun.

Very sorry to hear about this.

Wow, that's awful! I met him a couple times, but don't knwo if he'll remember me - give him my best wishes for a speedy recovery!!

How on earth are you that f'ed up that you run someone over and then continue to go... that's unreal... similar thing happened to a friend of mine earlier this year... he stopped at a 4-way stop and got rear ended by a woman on his harley... a concussion and broken back later, thankfully he's ok

I will say to you though, Dan, that this shouldn't cancel your plans to get a bike if you wanna get one.... Honestly, i hope that Dan (the roommate) gets back on a bike again too... i think its the true spirit of being a motorcycle enthusiast... even though something tough happens, you still get back on and conquer your fears....

Either way, I really hope he's ok and hope he heals up quickly!!!

Sorry to hear about that. I was at Monroville last night when it happened. I saw the bike chasing the SUV past Lowe's where we were at. The cops stopped and asked but we couldn't give any other info than that.

I hope he gets well soon.

Not sure at the moment. He doesn't have very much info right now. He only remembers the impact and riding in the ambulance. He has been trying to get in contact with the police today and get everything squared away. Hopefully none of the officers overlooked anything, he's worried about getting screwed over financially and having to eat the cost of the bike and such.

True, and there is probably still a slight chance I might end up with one, but I wouldn't feel safe at all here in Pittsburgh. People are such bad drivers around here, I sometimes don't even feel safe in my car.

And yea he remembers you, but more as "Bish - the guy that had the twin turbo trans am."

That's pretty crazy that you were there and saw it. The bike chasing the blazer was most likely a black R1.

WOW! That's absolutely terrible to hear. I hope your roommate heals quickly and doesn't have any long term health issues because of this.

On a side note, i don't that something like this should deter you from getting a motorcycle. If you love it, go for it. Just do everything in your power to be safe and thank your lucky stars every time you make it home safely.

glad he is ok... And i totally agree with the people riding around with shorts, no helmet, sandals and sometimes no shirt. Sometimes i just want to ride up and punch them in the head since obviously they arent using it anyways.
