    Thermostat?

Yesterday on my way home from the hospic I was put putting back home and when i was in third gear i noticed that my car sputered for a sec. and i looked down and i noticed that my temp gauge wasnt in the middle anymore and was moven rapidly to the hot side. i was able to get off the road and i opened the hood and couldnt find any antifreeze leaking... and my heater wasnt really blowing hot. i got a few bottles of water in it... but when i put the first one in.. i heard a click on the pass side of the motor.(perhaps where the thermostat is located) and it almost like burped the water.. the temp went back to normal after that then.... just bc of miss belief i turned the car off with the blower running and then started it back up and the temp gauge went back threw the roof.... i was able to get it home but... it took some time... anyone have any flippn idea on what just was going on with my termi?? im clueless.. if its a thermostat or a check valve? something that automaticly opens to allow fluid threw? i dunno

well if it "burped" like you said, have you bled the system to make sure the there isn't any air in it... my LT1 had bleeder valves on it... my LS1 had a self-bleeding system... not sure what the cobras would have

Man these cars are a bitch to burp correctly and seem to hold air bubbles that kick loose months down the road. When you added coolant did you add to the fill port beside the blower or did you open the coolant res tank?

The thermostats on these cars are located on the front drivers side down bellow the res tank. Its a aluminum housing that a few hoses run to. Its is not bolted to anything it is just suspened by the hoses.

When I first saw your post I thought it was going to be about a leaking res cap like some many of us seem to be having lately.

If you car overheated you are loosing coolant.

You need to find out where.

I recently had a weird problem that ended up being the expansion tank leaking at the seam, but wouldn't leak at idle....only while driving. It was a pain to figure out where it was leaking from, short of getting a system pressure test.

I am no mechanic, but smelling anti freeze with the heater on probably isn't too good of a sign.

everytime somebody told me they could smell antifreeze it ended up being they had a bad heater core. is your passenger floor wet? you could be loosing antifreeze through a bad heater core.

usually the floor won't get wet. the heater box should have a drain that leads outside, otherwise your floor would get wet when the ac is on. Also, even if the thermostat wasn't opening, you should still get hot air from the heater when the car is fully warmed up. I know the older Fords had a bypass for the heater, so I'm assuming the newer ones do too. Serves two purposes, relieves pressure from behind the thermostat, and allows windows to get defrosted BEFORE the thermostat opens. Otherwwise you would have to wait until your car reaches like 190 degrees before you could drive it...lol.

you could get your system pressure checked. If it doesn't hold pressure, you got a leak somewhere. If it does hold pressure, then I'd say your heater core is not the culprit.

Just do what I did...If she give you problems just tell her to shutup and like it. Then give it to her harder.

Yep this works for both car and women. j/k

I babied the hell out of my car after putting the KB on but now its game on. I figured if I drop money into it I should have fun. If she blows she blows! There is nothing I can do about it. Think of it this way...I bet the last time you had an issue you were just driving slow and not bothering anyone. Am I right? So next time around you should be WOT and laughing your ass off. Its money better spent that way. Enjoy it!
