    State Farm

I've never dealt with them so I got a question. Our Mustang was love tapped in the rear. I went out and got some estimates, this is before I knew who the hitter's insurance co was, ranging from 700-1200 for a new bumper cover. I talked to SF and they say I can take it to any of their shops and it'll get fixed, they'll pay the shop direct. I asked what if I wanted to use a shop of my choice. He said in that case an adjuster would have to look at the car and he'll cut a check to us. Is this true? I'm not trying to make any money off this or commit fraud, just wanted to do the work myself. The last time we had the car in for body work they didn't really do the quality work I thought they would.

yes that's how it works .... an insurance adjuster will take pictures and assess the damage ... he'll place a value on that damage, and if the body shop of your choice goes over that, then you will haev to pay the difference. If they keep it under that value, then you're covered....

the only thing you might want to think about is this... if you use the company that State Farm wants you to use, often a life-time warranty is applied to the work. If the paint spiders or flakes off in the future, they will fix it for free.... This isn't always the case, but it is the case with Traveler's... I was reluctant, but went with what they wanted... i had the car back to the shop 4 times within 2 weeks with things i wanted fixed or re-fixed... adn they did it all free of charge...

My plan was to buy a GT bumper (from a member here) and do the dual exhaust conversion. Should be about an even swap in cost.

My totaled Honda lives on as a 57" Mitsubishi. Damn tv has had more problems in 2 yrs than the car did for 7.

Sounds right to me. You should make out on the deal. I never had any troubles with state farm in 11 years. No hassle cutting the check either.
